The books in List No. 1 and No. 2 have been going very, very fast - so if you see something you want, take immediate action.

By Mike Chapman. Paperback. 139 pages. Many rare photos. Excellent condition. Foreword by wrestling legend Verne Gagne. A wonderful biography of the man that many call the greatest wrestler of all time. Includes a detailed account of both of the legendary Gotch-Hackenschmidt matches.

By the way, the cover photo shows Gotch applying one of the many variations of his dreaded toe-hold. I think the man getting his foot twisted off is Russian wrestler and weightlifter George Lurich, who weighed 187 pounds and could perform a ONE arm clean and jerk with 266 3/4 pounds. Gotch is handling him as if he were a baby.

When I first moved to Louisville many years ago, a very old man across the street asked me if I was a wrestler.

I told him, "Not any more, but I wrestled in high school."

"I knew it," he said.

I asked if he was a wrestling fan, and he told me that he had seen Frank Gotch and Farmer Burns wrestle when he was a little kid - and that he had been a wrestling fan ever since.  He said Gotch was the best he had ever seen. That gives you a good idea of what Frank Gotch was like - and how memorable a champion he was.

This book was published in 1990. Copies sell for $81.50 to $199.95. Because you're a Dinosaur, you can have it for much, much less.

Price: $50.00 plus shipping and handling

UPDATE: Sorry, Frank Gotch - World's Greatest Wrestler has been taken.

By Nikita Koloff and Jeffrey Gitomer.  Hard copy. 216 pages. Many photos and line drawings (cartoons). Excellent condition. This is a combination autobiography and guide to being successful in sports, business, and life in general. Pro Wrestling superstar, Nikita Koloff, teaches important keys to success in any and every aspect of your life. A very entertaining, fast moving, fun and informative book. It will make you want to bod-slam anything in your way.

I saw Nikita Koloff wrestle here in Louisville about the time of the events he covers in the book. Trust me, the man was a monster.

PRICE: $19.95 plus shipping and handling

UPDATE: Sorry, Wrestling with Success has been taken.

By Steve Jeck and Peter Martin. Paperback. 124 pages. Many photographs. Published in 1996 by IronMind Enterprises, Inc. Very good to excellent condition. This is the book that put stone lifting on the map. It includes fascinating and inspiring accounts of Steve Jeck's battles with legendary strength stones around the world, including the Inver Stone, the Blue Stones of  Old Dailley, the Testing Stone of the Fianna, the Stone of Destiny, the Hans Streyer Stones, the Husafel Stone, and many others. Includes the histtory and tradition surrounding these wonderful objects, and a complete course on how to train for stonelifting success.

And yes, a number of our Dinos have tackled the very same stones - and several Dinos have mastered them. We've covered this in The Dinosaur Files and the Dinosaur Files Quarterly. So I know that many of you are stone lifting fans!

Used copies sell for around $45.00 on Amazon. You can grab it here for much less than that.

PRICE: $30.00 plus shipping and handling (stones not included)

UPDATE: Sorry, Of Stones and Strength has been taken.

By Tom Thurston. Paperback. 295 pages. Many great photos. In very good condition other than a slight teat in the cover at the top of the spine. A detailed and inspiring biography of Doug Hepburn, World Weightlifting Champions and World record Holder, and one of the strongest men who ever lived.

Includes detailed training programs based on Doug Hepburn's actual workouts while training for major competitions.

All in all, this is an excellent book.

Several of our longtime Dinosaurs knew Doug Hepburn. Some of them talked training with him. One man used to have coffee with Big Doug and pick his brain for lifting tips. This book isn't quite the same as that, but it's pretty darn close.

Signed by the author, with a note to Brooks Kubik - which makes it a true collector's item.

PRICE: $25.00 plus shipping and handling

UPDATE: Sorry, Strongman - The Doug Hepburn Story has been taken.

By Dr. Judd Biasiotto. Paperback. 71 pages. Published in 1985. Excellent condition. This book is written by a powerlifting champion and record holder who mastered the art of self-hypnosis for strength training and powerlifting competition - and now teaches YOU how to do the very same thing.

I used these methods extensively when I was training for, and competing in, powerlifting and bench press contests. They're easy to learn - and they work.

A very interesting and informative book - written in plain English, with lots of anecdotes and stories - and very easy to apply.

This book is very rare and hard to find. i just did a quick search to see if I could find it in any used book sites on the Internet - and didn't find any copies for sale. That's not to say that you won't find one, but it won't be easy. And someone else might charge you an arm and a leg for it. I'm not going to do that, so if you want it, grab it right now!

PRICE: $25.00 plus shipping and handling

UPDATE: Sorry, Hypnotize Me and Make Me Great has been taken.

By Ned Beaumont. Paperback. 200 pages. Illustrated with numerous line drawings. Very good to excellent condition. A complete guide to using wrestling skills in street-fighting and personal defense.

This book made a big splash when it was published back in 1998. It's out of print now, and very hard to find. Copies sell for anywhere from $49.00 to $264.89, with the average price for copies in very good to excellent condition being somewhere between $65.00 and $80.00. But don't worry - I'm going to charge a lot less than that.

There's a back story here, and I want to share it. The author was one of the very first Dinosaurs - meaning that he bought a copy of Dinosaur training when the little monster first came out way back in 1996.

When he published his own book, he included a very nice review and endorsement of Dinosaur Training (it's at page 175), and he sent me an inscribed, autographed copy. It's been in my library ever since, but now I want to pass it on to another Dinosaur. And since it's inscribed and autographed, it's a true collector's item.

PRICE: $50.00 plus shipping and handling

UPDATE: Sorry, Kill-As_Catch-Can has been taken.

This is the modern version of the original Charles Atlas "Dynamic-Tension" Bodybuilding and Fitness System. It comes in a three ring binder, and includes 12 Lessons, 5 special gifts, a letter from Charles Atlas and a certificate telling the world that you are a Charles Atlas student. This is the best-selling physical culture course in history, and although it's dated, if you followed the workouts on a regular basis you'd do pretty darn well.

The modern course sells for $49.95. This copy is in excellent condition, and you can have it for $29.95 plus shipping and handling.

If you had the Charles Atlas course when you were a kid - or if you never had it, but always wanted to own a copy  - or if you want to start your son or grandson off on the right kind of training for a beginner, this is a great course for you.

By the way, I never had a copy of the Charles Atlas course when I was a kid. It cost $30.00, and that was way too much money for me back then. But I always wanted the darn thing - and so did all of my friends. If you're my age, you probably felt the very same way.

PRICE: $29.95 plus shipping and handling

UPDATE: Sorry, the Charles Atlas course has been taken.

By John McCallum. Edited by Randall J. Strossen, Ph.D.  Paperback. 270 pages. This is it - the complete collection of all of John McCallum's legendary articles. Tons of great info. Especially good for old-school strength and bulk training.  Several really good articles on leg specialization, breathing squats, hip belt squats, and other "get big" workouts. Very entertaining, and fun to read.

This copy is in good condition. The cover is a bit bent here and there, and there is some light spotting on the outside of the pages that is visible when the book is closed, but the inside pages are clean and it's very readable.

If you've been thinking about getting around to reading this, now's the time.

PRICE: $10.00 plus shipping and handling

UPDATE: Sorry, the Complete Keys to Progress has been taken.

By David Webster. Hard copy. 143 pages. Many rare photographs. First edition, printed in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1973. With the original dust cover. In excellent condition - and signed by the author!

This is the definitive guide to the Scottish Highland Games, written by the man who is probably the world's leading authority on the Highland Games, their tradition, their history, and the athletes who will live forever in the hearts of strength fans. If you want to feel as if you're right there, standing on a field in Scotland, with the heather waving in the breeze on the far hills, the salmon leaping in the river and the castles standing strong and proud over the dark, cold lochs - waiting your turn to throw the mighty, massive caber  and watch it go spinning through the air - this book is for you.

This book is a collectible. It's hard to find, and I don't know if any other signed copies are available for sale.

PRICE: $100.00 plus shipping and handling.

UPDATE: Sorry, but Scottish Highland Games has been taken.

By Alan Radley. 8 1/2 X 11. Paperback. 148 pages. Published in 2001. Lavishly illustrated with many rare photos and drawings, including photos of virtually all the great champions from the Golden Age of Physical Culture (Sandow, Saxon, Hackenschmidt, etc.) up through the era of John Grimek, John Davis and Steeve Reeves, and from there into the modern era.

In excellent condition, and signed by the author. Another true collector's edition.

Out of print. Very rare and hard to find. Used copies sell for $50.00 on Amazon, but they don't appear to be autographed by the author - and there are only two copies available. You can have this autographed copy for the same price.

PRICE: $50.00 plus shipping and handling

By Bill Starr. A very popular book that teaches strength training for football based on old-school, ground-based training, emphasizing Bill Starr's Big 3: the squat, bench press and power clean.8 1/2 x 11, 212 pages. Third edition, 1979.

This is a photo-copy, not an original. Normally, I would not offer a photo-copy for sale, but this one is unique.

Bill Starr autographed the original to "Stuart" in October, 1991. I can only presume that this was Stuart McRobert, the author of BRAWN and other books, and the editor and publisher of Hardgainer magazine at the time Starr autographed the book.

At the time, I was writing for Hardgainer magazine, and was corresponding with Mike Thompson, a fellow author for Hardgainer who had a great litle series called "The Real Thing."

Mike sent me this photo-copy of The Strongest Shall Survive as a Christmas present, and included a signed message just below Bill Starr's autograph.

Thus, you have a double autograph - Bill Starr to Stuart McRobert, and then Mike Thompson to me. I don't think you'll find that anywhere else in the world.

Here's what it looks like:

Anyhow, this is a great little piece of Iron Game history - and a perfect gift for fans of Bill Starr and Mike Thompson.

Price: $20.00 plus shipping and handling

This is a copy of the official rulebook for the International All-Round Weightlifting Association. It's not dated, but I believe it is from the 1990's. It covers 132 different lifts contested in IAWA competition, and includes brief descriptions of how to perform them, along with photos of many of the lifts. This is a great resource for learning old-school lifts, including a wide variety of presses, jerks, deadlifts, snatches, bent presses, swings, the crucifix, etc.

8 1/2 x 11, over 50 pages, printed on one-side only, in a heavy binder. Very good condition.

$20.00 plus shipping and handling

UPDATE: Sorry, The IAWA Official Rulebook has been taken.
