A Question About Heavy Partials - and My Answer!

I've been getting tons of questions about my new training course on heavy partials - so here's the latest one - and my answer to it!

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

I hope this email finds you strong,
healthy and powering forward into
the New Year!

And speaking of powering forward -
one of our longtime Dinos - age 72 -
asked if he should try my new course
on heavy partials.

I should note, by the way, that he's
an experienced trainee. He started
training at age 12, and he's been
hitting the iron pretty much ever
since.

So, back to his question . . . should
he give heavy partials a try?

The short answer is YES - but as with
anything else, you need to use some
good old-fashioned common sense.

When you begin doing heavy partials:

1. Start light.

2. Learn the movements and the best
rack positions before you begin to pile
on the weight.

3. Train progressively - with small but
steady increases in weight on the bar.

4. Always warm-up thoroughly before
doing heavy partials.

5. If a particular movement hurts when
you do it - find a different exercise for
the same body part. You can always
find an alternative exercise that works
just as well or even better.

If you do heavy partials the right way,
as outlined above, they should work
fine for you at any age. In fact, many
older Dinos find that they work better
than anything else - and that it's much
easier to recover from your workouts.

And, of course, heavy partials do a
heck of a lot for bone strength and
bone mass - which is very important
for our age 50-plus Dinos.

Anyhow, I think our age-72 Dino
should try my heavy partials program -
but as noted above, I want him to be
smart about it - and use his brain, not
his ego, to dictate his poundages and
his workouts.

You can grab the program right here:

Will Weight Training Stunt Your Growth?

John Grimek's father and older brother didn't want him to lift weights - because they were afraid it would stunt his growth!

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Two quick notes, and then we'll talk
training.

1. Kindle Goes Old-School!

John Wood and I have been setting
the Kindle bookstore on fire over
the past couple of weeks.

Our new books have been hitting no.
1 spots day after day - and that's
really incredible for two guys who
write exclusively about old-fashioned,
back to basics strength training and
muscle building.

You can find some of our most pop-
ular new books right here:

100 Strength Training Tips for
Combat Athletes

Good stuff for Dinos - check them
out!

2. The Dinosaur Files

Go here to grab the Nov issue of
The Dinosaur Files.

It's another great issue - with a
killer article by one of our Dinos
who covers a new program he
used to gain 25 pounds of muscle
in just a couple of months.

Nov. Dino Files

http://www.brookskubik.com/dinosaurfiles-nov2018.html

Meanwhile, I'm finishing up the
December issue - and it's looking
like another good one! Be looking
for it soon.

3. Does Weight Training Stunt Your
Growth?

Back in the day, many well-meaning
people believed that weight training
would stunt your growth.

Meaning that if you started weight
lifting as a teenager, you'd stop
growing to what would otherwise
have been your natural height.

I have no idea who started this idea,
or where it came from - but it was
very firmly entrenched for many
years.

Heck, I can remember people saying
it back when I started training in the
1960's.

And it was around long before that.

In fact, the most famous weight trainer
of the 1930's, 40's and 50's almost
didn't start training - because his
father believed that weight training
would stunt his growth.

Yes, I'm speaking of John Grimek.

Yes, THAT John Grimek.

Two-time Mr. America, Mr. USA and
Mr. Universe. The top bodybuilder of
his generation. Undefeated in body-
building contests.

Senior National Weightlifting Champion.

North American Weightlifting Champion.

American record holder in the military
press.

Unofficial World record holder in the
military press.

The man they called "the Monarch of
Muscledom."

THAT John Grimek.

John Grimek was a short little kid -
and his father and older brother
were worried that weight training
would keep him from growing any
taller.

So they told John he couldn't lift
weights!

They were so serious about it that
when John's older brother headed
out of town for a summer job at a
logging camp, he put his weights
in a big wooden box, wrapped it
up with a big chain, and locked it
with a padlock - and then took the
key with him!

Of course, younger brothers can
break into anything - and John
broke into the box - and took out
the weights and started training
in secret.

Anyhow, that's just one example
of how the belief that "stunt your
growth" fear almost stopped a
legendary training career.

But will weight training REALLY
stunt your growth?

Maybe not.

In fact, maybe it will make you
taller!

Check this out . . .

For the past couple of years, John
Wood has been doing a special
training program to build his bones
to their maximum.

He's been getting regular DEXA tests
to see how it works - and the tests
show that he's increased his bone
mass enormously as a result of the
special training program.

But he's also done something else that
is pretty remarkable.

In fact, something that many people
would tell you is impossible.

After he began following his special
bone strength program, John began
to grow taller.

In his most recent check-up, he was
measured again - and he's grown a
full inch taller.

From 6'3" to 6'4".

So if anyone tells you that weight
training will stunt your growth, tell
them about John Wood and his bone
strength program.

As always, thanks for reading, and
have a great day. if you train today,
make it a good one!

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

A Training Program You've Never Seen Before!

Breaking news! There's something brand new for Dinos - and it features a super-effective workout that you've never seen before!

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

John Wood has just released The John
Wood Report No. 5.

You can grab it right here:

https://www.oldtimestrongman.com/johnwoodreport05.html

As always, it includes some great
articles - but one article in particular
stands out.

It's an update on John's unique Bone
Strength Training program - except
he's doing things a bit differently
than before.

In fact, he's doing something that
I've never seen before - or read
about before - and never tried.

And I seriously doubt if anyone else
in the world is doing it.

But it may be the very best thing
ever for building bone strength
and bone mass.

Which means it may be one of the
very best things ever for older Dinos.

Or Dinos of any age - because bone
strength and bone mass is important
at any age.

So grab a copy - it costs less than the
price of one of those mocha monkey
cappuccino latte drinks at the trendy
coffee shops - and read it through -
and see for yourself exactly what
I'm talking about - and then decide
if you want to try working it into
your own program.

And yes - I do plan on trying it -
and I bet a lot of you are going
to do the very same thing.

Totally Heavy Iron, Batman!

My new Dinosaur Strength and Power course just raced all the way up to no. 1 in its category in the Kindle bookstore - and that's pretty good for a course that focuses on heavy iron and old-school strength training with heavy partials.

Wow and double wow!

And "Totally heavy iron, Batman!"

My Dinosaur Training course on
heavy partials has raced all the
way up to No. 1 in its category

A New PR in Two Short Weeks!

I launched my new Heavy Partials training course earlier this year, and many of you grabbed it and made BIG GAINS in strength, power and muscle mass -  and you made them very, very fast.

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

I launched my new Heavy Partials training
course earlier this year, and many of you
have grabbed it and are giving the pro-
gram a try.

That means we're getting a ton of great
feedback on it. Many of you made BIG
GAINS on the program - and you made
them VERY FAST.

For example . . .

One of our many Texas Dinos has been
doing plenty of heavy bench press partials
ever since he got the course - and in just
two weeks he set a new PR in the
bench
press.

Think about that for a second.

New course - do it for just two weeks -
and BOOM - new PR.

That's not too shabby.

It's also not a surprise.

Thirty years ago, when I was competing in
drug-free bench press and powerlifting con-
tests, I traveled from Louisville to Jackson-
ville to compete in a National bench press
contest.

My goal was to set a new age group World
record in one of the two powerlifting feder-
ations I lifted in.

Long story short, I won my age group and
weight class - but missed the World record
attempt.

I was steamed.

I drove back to Louisville cussing and fuming
the whole way.

I went on a special all-partials bench press
program for just two weeks - entered another
National Championship contest in Edison,
New Jersey - and set the new record.

When I set the record, I made an EASY lift
with the weight I had missed just two weeks
earlier in Jacksonville.

So in case you were wondering - yes, this
stuff works.

It works fast.

And it works great.

Go here, grab the new course, and see for
yourself. It's available in PDF or Kindle,
whichever you prefer:

Here's Something Really Good for Rugged Strength and Power

Let's talk about a piece of strenth training equipment that old-timers like Arthur Saxon would have loved! Too bad it wasn't available to them "back in the day" - but luckily for YOU it's available now - and you may find that it's one of the best and most effective training tools you've ever used.

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

We just released the Sept-Oct 2018 issue
of The Dinosaur Files strength training
newsletter.

It's another big issue - 12 pages - with tons
of training tips, exercises and workouts -
including a very challenging program that
uses a special combination of exercises
performed with a strongman yoke.

I'm sure you've seen a strongman yoke
in WSM videos and related  other videos
on social media.

They're starting to become very popular,
and you can find them at many gyms now.

And many of you have them in your own
home gym - or are thinking about getting
one.

Turns out it's a very good training tool -
one that you can use very safely and
effectively to build plenty of strength
and muscle - along with a very high
level of cardio conditioning.

That's because you can do a lot of what
I call "finishers" with the yoke - and you
probably know that finishers are pretty
darn tough - and pretty darn effective.

It's also a very good - a very safe - way
to do heavy partials - and heavy partials
are one of the very best strength builders
there is.

But - a word of caution . . . .

Yoke training is real man-making stuff -
so if you try it and end up sore as heck,
don't say I didn't warn you - because I
just did!

You can grab the Sept-Oct Dino Files
right here in a downloadable and printable
PDF - with immediate electronic delivery:

Happy reading - and enjoy!

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

P.S. In other news, we just released
my new training course on Heavy
Partials in the Kindle bookstore. The
course has been available in PDF for
awhile, and many of you asked for it

One More Reason

That's me doing partial push presses with 440 pounds - back in the original Dinosaur Dungeon, more than 20 years ago. Those heavy partials built tons of bone strength.

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

In case you needed it, here's one more
reason to make Bone Strength Training
a priority in your workouts.

John Wood has mentioned it in several
recent emails that you may already have
seen - but it's very important for all of us,
so I want to follow up on it a bit.

Anyhow, here it is - one more reason to
do Bone Strength Training:

Increasing your bone mass may very
well increase your testosterone levels.

Let me repeat that.

If you do specialized training to increase
the density, strength and thickness of
your bones . . .

. . . which I refer to as Bone Strength
Training, using the term coined by John
Wood in his revolutionary Bone Strength
Project . . .

. . . then the increases in bone mass may
very well lead to increases in your body's
production of male hormones.

I use the term "may' because the research
is relatively new.

But so far, it looks like this:

1. Your bones contain a special "messenger"
protein that sends signals to other cells
and organs throughout your body.

2. In men, this includes the testes.

3. The signal from the messenger protein
is very simple: "Switch on!"

4. "Switch on!" means "Make more
testosterone!"

5. In other words, "Start flooding this man's
body with as much testosterone as possible!"

And that makes it look like increased bone
mass may lead to increased testosterone
production.

Which in turn leads to increased strength
and muscle mass.

As well as plenty of other good things -
especially for older Dinos.

It's not exactly the Fountain of Youth,
but it's pretty darn close.

How's that from a bonus from doing some
specialized work to build your bones?

So how do you do it?

Well, that's easy.

John and I have covered bone building
workouts in a number of our respective
books and courses - including these:

John Wood's Bone Strength Project

https://www.oldtimestrongman.com/bone-strength-projectPDF.html

This is issue no. 2 of the Train Hard
Bulletin - available in PDF format -
and it details John's unique approach
to Bone Strength Training.

Dinosaur Strength and Power -
Course No. 2 - Heavy Partials

http://www.brookskubik.com/dinosaurstrengthandpower-02.html

This is a no. 2 in a new series of special
training courses. It's available in PDF -
and the PDF is printable, so you can
print and save it if that's how you
like to do your reading.

Course No. 2 covers heavy partials in
detail - and includes an excellent
workout that will help build tons of
bone strength - as well as plenty
of tendon, ligament and muscle
strength.

Dinosaur Training: Lost Secrets of
Strength and Development

http://www.brookskubik.com/dinosaur_training.html

Every page of Dinosaur Training oozes
strength and power - and everything in
the book will help you build strong bones.
Chapters 10, 11, 16 and 17 are especially
good for Bone Strength Training.

Dinosaur Training is available in a hard-
copy edition only. Order it from my website,
using the above link. For the Kindle edition,
use the Kindle links at the end of this post.

The Dinosaur Strength Training
Archive, Vol. 1

http://www.brookskubik.com/dinosaurtraining_archive.html

The Dinosaur Strength Training Archive
is a collection of my articles from the
original Dinosaur Files newsletter, which
I launched in 1997.

Chapters 1 and 2 cover old-school training
methods that are very effective for Bone
Strength Training. In fact, the workout in
chapter 2 is kind of hard to beat.

This little monster is available in your choice
of hard-copy or Kindle edition. The above
photo shows the cover of the Kindle edition.

So there you have it - four great resources
for Bone Strength Training - with all of its
enormous benefits.

Of course, you could skip the Bone Strength
Training and stick to the light stuff - or the
muscle pumping stuff - or the endless hours
of cardio that so many people do - and just
forget all about strong bones.

Or you could give it a try and see how it
works.

My very strong recommendation is to give
it a try - because if it works (and I think it
will), then you've done something truly
important for your strength, health and
happiness.

And you've also learned a very important
key to lifelong strength and health.

And seriously - what do you have to lose?

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik
