Brooks Kubik's Iron Game Collection - List No. 1 - Bob Hoffman's Strength and Health Magazine

Brooks Kubik’s Iron Game Collection – List No. 1 – Bob Hoffman’s Strength and Health magazine

I have 469 issues of Bob Hoffman’s Strength and Health magazine from various dates in 1933 (the first year of publication) through 1986. Other than as noted below (magazines with loose covers, no back cover, etc.), all magazines are in good or very good condition.

I have divided these magazines into sets based on the year of publication. Each set is priced individually. The prices listed below do not include shipping and handling; we'll calculate shipping and handling charges based on where you live and what you order, and give you a total that includes shipping and handling charges.

All orders will be shipped by USPS Priority Mail. Please note that in filling orders we are limited to what we can fit into a USPS Priority Mail shipping box.

Everything listed below is first come, first served, and I only have one of each set, so if you want something, order it ASAP by emailing me at:

info@brookskubik.com

When you email, please give me your shipping address and preferred payment method. PayPal, credit card and check are fine for anyone living in the USA. However, we can only accept PayPal and credit card for orders outside the USA.

Note: if you prefer to pay by credit card, do NOT send your cc info by email. When I respond to you, I'll let you know how to place a secure cc order.

Because these are one of a kind items, we cannot replace them or refund the purchase price, so please give me a secure shipping address, preferably where someone will be there to sign for the package when it is delivered.

We reserve the right to decline any order based on the cost of shipping, delivery issues/concerns in a given country or any other reason.

Shoot me an email if you have any questions!

Training Tips from Seven Old-School Champions

Today's Blog Post features training tips from seven famous old-school champions - including a very important tip from John Grimek.

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Two quick notes, and then we'll talk
training - and cover some important
training tips from seven old-school
champions.

1. The Complete Physique Course

This is a great old-school training course,
which has been out of print for many
years - but it's available again in a
special Kindle series, courtesy of
John Wood. Check it out!

The Complete Physique Course,
Lessons 1 and 2

Covers old-school bodyweight training
and old-school bodybuilding.

The Complete Physique Course,
Lessons 3 and 4

Covers training for sports - and old-school
Olympic weightlifting.

These have been very popular - they both
jumped up to no. 1 in their category in
the Kindle store - and readers are really
enjoying them - so scoot on over and
grab them!

2. The Dinosaur Files

I'm finishing up the next issue of The
Dinosaur Files - it will be a combined
September - October issue - and I think
you're really going to like it.

In the meantime, if you missed the last
two issues, grab them now:

July-August Dino Files

May-June Dino Files

Each issue of The Dinosaur Files has
training tips, workouts, and tons of fun
and informative articles - all of it the
sort of real-world, no-nonsense training
advice you've come to know and expect
from Dinosaur Headquarters.

3. Seven Old-School Strength Training
Tips

I thought you'd enjoy seven quick training
tips from the old-school champions - so
here they are.

Each one is from a different old-time
champion.

1. A Tip from Sig Klein

Perform all of your exercises in perfect form,
with no cheating. Work the muscles over the
complete range of motion on every rep.

2. A Tip from Steve Stanko

To build strength, do plenty of heavy singles
in the big exercises.

3. A Tip from John Grimek

Always focus on the muscle group you are
exercising with any particular movement -
and concentrate as hard as possible on each
rep - try to feel the muscle working over
every inch of movement.

4. A Tip from Bob Hoffman

You can't train on your nerve too often. It's
always best to alternate light, medium and
heavy workouts.

5. A Tip from George F. Jowett

One of the best ways to progress in your
training is to begin with relatively simple
exercises, and gradually move up to harder
and more demanding movements.

6. A Tip from John Grunn Marx

Use thick-handled dumbbells to build your
grip strength. Depending on the size of
your hands, gradually work up to 2, 2.5
or even 3 inch thick dumbbell handles.

7. A Tip from Earle Liederman

Specialize on building bone, tendon and
ligament strength just as much as building
muscle strength.

So there you go - seven training tips from
seven old-school champions.

Let me know how you like these - if you
like them, we can do plenty more of
them!

Meanwhile, and as always - thanks for
reading, and have a great day. If you
train today, make it a good one!

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

P.S. Speaking of building bone, tendon,
and ligament strength - my new course
on heavy partials will do exactly that -
and FAST!

Old-Time Training Secrets

Fred Rollon, the Human Anatomy Chart, shows us what real-world, drug-free muscle looks like - and how amazingly effective, old-school strength training and bodybuilding can be!

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Here's a quick heads up about an
excellent resource for real world,
no-nonsense, old-time strength
training and bodybuilding secrets.

David Webster, the longtime and
well-known Physical Culture expert
and former Scottish National Weight-
lifting Coach, wrote a detailed series
of courses on old-time training many,
many years ago.

He called it "The Complete Physique
Course" - which is a pretty good title,
I think - and which kind of shows you
that the program is pretty darn
comprehensive.

They've been out of print and pretty
near impossible to find for many years,
but John Wood is now releasing them
again - on Kindle - in an approved,
authorized edition - and that means
that they're available again - for the
first time in many years.

The Complete Physique Course is broken
into a series of lessons.

Lessons 1 thru 4 cover the following
important topics:

Lesson 1 - Old-school bodyweight
exercises.

Lesson 2 - Old-School bodybuilding
and bodypart specialization programs.

Lesson 3 - Training for sports - with
different programs and workouts for
many popular sports.

Lesson 4 - Olympic weightlifting (with
tons of training tips that have been
pretty much forgotten nowadays -
but that work amazingly well).

You can grab them right here:

The Complete Physique Course,
Lessons 1 and 2

The Complete Physique Course,
Lessons 3 and 4

I think you'll really enjoy these truly
excellent old courses - and I think
they'll give you a very good idea of
what old-school training was all about.

So check them out - leave a review
(reviews help spread the word) - and
let me know how you like them!

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

Something for Jowett Fans!

George F. Jowett's wonderful course on old-school barbell and dumbbell training is available again in a great-looking modern reprint edition - but we don't have many copies - so if you want one, act fast!

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Did you know that George F. Jowett
wrote a complete course on old-school
barbell and dumbbell training?

He did.

He called it:

Progressive Barbell Training.

Which is a pretty good title.

It's a very interesting course - but
unfortunately, it's almost impossible
to find.

Has been for almost 100 years.

But not any more!

Way back in 2010 I issued a modern
reprint edition of this classic course.

They're 8 1/2 x 11 - 36 pages - with
a heavy card cover - and it's illustrated
with some very nice line drawings that
show you how to do all of the different
exercises in the course.

It's a very nice course - and a real link to
a grand old man of the Iron Game -
and to old-school barbell and dumbbell
training.

I thought I was out of them - but the
other day I found a mysterious box at
our storage unit - took it home - looked
inside - and found some of those modern
reprint editions of Progressive Barbell
Training.

So I'm offering them to the Dino Nation
on a first come, first served basis.

If you want a copy, do this:

Go to the Dinosaur Training website
and order a copy of Dinosaur Training.

But when you place your order, include
a note in the special comments section
saying that you actually want George
Jowett's Progressive Barbell Training
course.

We'll fill your order by shipping you the
Progressive Barbell Training course -
NOT Dinosaur Training.

But be sure to include the note when you
place your order - otherwise, we'll ship
Dinosaur Training.

If you forget to include the note with
your order, shoot me an email PRONTO -
and let me know that your order was
for Progressive Barbell Training.

Also, pls note - we can adjust the
shipping method for overseas orders -
so if you place an overseas order for
the Jowett course, go ahead and select
the default postage you're given - and
we'll see if we can send it for less - and
if we can, we will - and we'll refund the
extra postage charges.

We don't have very many of these left,
so if you want a copy, I strongly suggest
that you jump on this offer right away.

Here's the link to Dinosaur Training -
and remember, if you want Progressive
Barbell Training, include a note to that
effect with your order:

John Grimek's Back of the Chair Curl

Two quick notes, and then we'll talk

very effective back of the chair curl.

3. The Back of the Chair Curl

John Grimek started weight training
in the early 1930's, and ended up
being the best built man in the
entire world - as well as one of the
strongest men in the world.

And he met, knew and trained with
many of the other top men of the
era.

So he had a pretty good idea of
how they did things back in the
day.

In the mid-1970's, Grimek wrote an
article comparing the way men trained
back in the 1930's - and he noted that
even though they didn't have as much
equipment, they were able to get
things done very effectively.

It just took a little bit of ingenuity.

John Grimek and other champions of his era accomplished amazing things with very basic, simple training equipment.

For example, they didn't have a
special stand for doing preacher
curls (a/k/a Scott curls).

No one made or sold that kind of
stand back then.

But it didn't matter.

Grimek and others of his era would
use an old wooden chair instead.

They'd turn it around, stand it in
place, brace it with one hand to
keep it from tipping - and do one
arm dumbbell curls over the back
of the chair.

He said it worked great - just as
well as doing preacher curls on a
modern preacher bench.

He gave other examples of how the
old-timers got it done with a very
limited amount of basic equipment.

They just had to be creative.

That made things interesting for
them - and I'm sure it made things
lots of fun, as well.

That was one of the good things
about the Iron Game.

You had to think about what you
were doing and what you wanted
to achieve - and you had to figure
out ways to do the job without an
equipment manufacturer doing it
for you.

Many of us do somewhat similar
things today - especially if we train
in a home gym.

We don't let anything hold us back.

We figure out how to do the job -
and then we do it!

As always, thanks for reading and
have a great day. If you train today,
make it a good one!

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik
