Grab Them While You Can!

We're getting down to the end of the line for my Legacy of Iron books - and I'm not going to print any more - so if you want the full set - or if you need  one or more to complete your collection, act now - and take advantage of the special low price for the books!

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

We're getting down to the end of the
line for my five Legacy of Iron books -
and because we're going to be moving
in the not too distant future, I'm not
going to reprint them.

There are five books in the series -
which covers the inside history of
bodybuilding and weightlifting in
the USA in the 1930s and 1940s:

Legacy of Iron

Legacy of Iron 2 - Clouds of War

Legacy of Iron 3 - The 1000 Pound
Total

Legacy of Iron 4 - York Goes to
War!

Legacy of Iron 5 - Barbells in the
Pacific

The books are historical novels -
meaning that they're based on
actual events and include real
people - such as John Grimek,
Steve Stanko, Bob Hoffman,
Gracie Bard, John Davis, Sig
Klein, Warren Lincoln Travis,
Harry Paschall, and many others.

They cover all of the big weight-
lifting and bodybuilding contests
of the era - and tell you how the
champs trained - and what they
ate.

They even include plenty of
actual workouts, training tips,
and training advice from men
like Grimek, Stanko, Klein
and Hoffman.

It's like sitting down and having
a cup of coffee with John Grimek
and Steve Stanko - and finding
out exactly how they trained and
what they were like.

Best of all, the books are fun,
fast-paced, exciting reads that
will get you revved up and ready
to hit the iron hard and heavy!

If you want to grab a set of all
five books in the series for a
special low price of 50 clams
plus shipping and handling,
then shoot me an email - and
let me know your shipping
address.

Ditto if you need some but not
all of the books to complete
your set - for example, if you
need books 4 and 5 in the series

In that case, it would be just
10 clams per book plus the
cost of shipping and handling.

We'll work up the postage and
let you know the total cost for
the books you want, plus the
cost of shipping and handling.

It's first come, first served -
for as long as we still have
them - and then that's it -
over and done with - out of
print - no longer available.

So if you want to grab all five
books - or if you need a couple
of them to complete your set -
grab them NOW!

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

P.S. The first three books in the
series are available in the Kindle
bookstore - and books 4 and
5 in the series will be added to our
Kindle store soon. If you prefer the
Kindle format,go here to see them:

Steve Stanko and the 1,000 Pound Total

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Just wanted to be sure you
heard the big news.

We just released Legacy of
Iron 3 -
The 1,000 Pound
Total
in the Kindle bookstore.

This volume continues the
story of Jim Miller, Jack Ryan,
and their adventures with John
Grimek, Steve Stanko, Bob
Hoffman, Harry Paschall and
the rest of the York champions.

And it focuses on one of the
most incredible true stories
in the history of the Iron
Game - Steve Stanko's epic
quest to break the 1,000
pound total in weightlifting.

What Would Happen If . . . ?

The garage gym at Dino Headquarters was the best-ever place to train. What would happen if everyone had a small home gym or a local neighborhood gym to use?

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Two quick notes, and then we'll
talk iron.

1. Legacy of Iron 3 - on Kindle!

Yesterday we released Legacy of
Iron 3 - The 1,000 Pound Total
in a Kindle edition. You can find
it right here:

http://www.brookskubik.com/legacyofiron03_kindle.html

Of course, if you prefer hard-copy,
all of the Legacy of iron books are
available in hard-copy editions.

You can find them here:

http://www.brookskubik.com/products.html

2. The Iron League

I talked to John Wood the other
day, and he's putting up some
great new stuff at the Iron League.

That includes - drum roll - the original
Dinosaur Files newsletter from 1997
through 2002 - a total of 61 killer
issues.

If you missed them the first time
around, or if you read them but
don't have them any more, this is
your chance to grab a very big slice
of Dino-riffic training advice and
Iron Game history.

3. What Would Happen If . . .?

On the training front, I was asking
myself what would happen if every-
one in the USA owned a basic barbell
and dumbbell set and trained for 45
minutes to an hour three times
a week.

I bet it would take care of a whole
lot of health problems.

And that got me to thinking about
other "What if . .  ." questions.

So I thought I'd share some of them
with you.

1. What would happen if there were
no more steroids and everyone trained
100% drug-free and natural?

2. What would happen if there were
no more super supplements and
everyone relied on hard work, regular
training and a healthy diet?

3. What would happen if every
household had a small home gym?

4. What would happen if there was
an old-fashioned, old-school gym on
every corner in every town and city
throughout the world?

Knife, Fork, Muscle may be the best book out there on how to eat for lifelong strength and health. It should be mandatory reading for all doctors - and for everyone in medical school.
 5. What would happen if everyone
had a small garden, and grew plenty
of fresh, healthy, local, organic and
inexpensive food?

6. What would happen if we eliminated
sugar from our diets - all of us, every
single person, and completely?

7. What would happen if everyone
walked two or three miles a day?

8. What would happen if everyone
played sports instead of watching
sports on television?

9. What would happen if everyone
read one book a week?

10. What would happen if the most
common prescription that doctors
wrote was "Less food and more
squats"?

I'll stop now, but I could keep going
for a very long time. You can probably
think of plenty more of these - and
you can probably picture the kind of
world I want for all of us.

As always, thanks for reading and have
a great day. If you train today, make it
a good one!

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

Steve Stanko - The Big Champ!

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Back in the 1930's and early 1940's, Bob
Hoffman wrote about the York Champions
in every issue of Strength and Health
magazine.

He talked about Tony Terlazzo, the World
Champion and Olympic Champion at 132
and 148 pounds.

There was Johnny Terpak, World Champion
at 165 pounds.

John Davis, World Champion at 181 pounds.
John Grimek, also at 181 pounds - a Senior
National Champion and North American
Champion - and two-time Mr. America
winner.

And in the Heavyweight class, weighing
220 pounds, there was Steve Stanko.

Hoffman called him "The Big Champ."

It was a good name.

In his prime, Stanko was hailed as The
Strongest Man in the World.

One of his goals was to be the first man
in history to total 1,000 pounds or more
in the three Olympic lifts: the military
press, the snatch, and the clean and
jerk.

It was a feat fully akin to running a
mile in less than four minutes.

It was something no man had ever
done - and something that many
believed could never be done. They
didn't believe the human body was
capable of doing it.

I cover Steve Stanko and the other
Champions of the era in my Legacy
of Iron books.

They're available in hard-copy at Dino
Headquarters - and the first three in
the series are available in Kindle
editions, as well.

Yes, I did say the first THREE in the
series - because we just released The
1,000 Pound Total in the Kindle book-

The Dinosaur Wish List

These are some of our most popular books on Kindle. What would you like to see next?

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Yesterday I asked for feedback from
the Dinos.

I wanted to know which of my books
and courses you'd like us to release
in Kindle editions.

Obviously, we're going to work on
what you tell us you want to see.
We got a ton of responses, which I
have reviewed. I'm keeping a list of
the number of votes for each book
or course you want to see on
Kindle.

So far, the top items on the Dinosaur
Wish List are these (listed in no
particular order):

1. Gray Hair and Black Iron

2. Chalk and Sweat

3. Strength, Muscle and Power

4. Dinosaur Training (the original Dino
book)

5. Dinosaur Dumbbell Training

6. The remaining books in the Legacy
of Iron Series

7. Dinosaur Bodyweight Training

We also got MANY requests to go
ahead and put the last volume of
the Knife, Fork, Muscle Kindle series
on line. (We broke it up into four
Kindle books to make it easier to
read, and need to release the last
in the series on Kindle.)

Since I can't work on everything
at once, I'm going to work on what
gets the most votes - so send me
an email and let me know what
you want to see next!

To make it easy, here's what's
available in hard-copy:

http://www.brookskubik.com/products.html

And here's everything that's
currently available in Kindle:

http://www.brookskubik.com/kindle.html

Take a look at both lists,
and let me know what to
work on next!

Thanks for your help and your
feedback!

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

This Made My Day!

Fred Rollon, the "Human Anatomy Chart," demonstrates the kind of development you can build with old-school, drug-free strength training.

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

We released book 2 in the
Legacy of Iron series a
couple of days ago, and
not long after I rec'd an
email that really made
my day.

It was from one of our
longtime Dinos, who
wrote:

"Brooks,

I'm so excited to see the
first two Legacy of Iron
books on Kindle.

I have read all of the
books in this series in
paperback editions, and
loved them!

Now I can't wait to reread
them as e-books.

I just bought both of them
for my Kindle.

Thanks!

Rick N."

You can see why that made
my day - and you also can
imagine why Rick is so
excited.

Here's my guess . . .

I love hard-copy, ink on paper
books and courses, but the
Kindle books are pretty good,
too.

There's no shipping and handling
charge.

They're cheaper.

You can carry 100 or more of
them around with you.

You can increase the font
size to whatever is easy to
read.

Once you are in the Amazon
Kindle system you can buy
books with literally one click
of the button.

And for me, there's a huge plus -
it is MUCH faster to get new
books to you in the Kindle format.

MUCH faster.

And I really like that, because
we have tons of great stuff
coming for you.

So even if you like hard-copy,
Ink on paper, give our Kindle
books a try. I think you'll be
very pleasantly surprised.

Kindle:

Legacy of Iron 2 - Clouds of War

http://www.brookskubik.com/legacyofiron02_kindle.html

Of course, if you grab one of the
little monsters (or both of them),
pls leave a review on our Kindle
pages.

Your reviews really help us - and they
help other Dinos found our books in
the Kindle bookstore.

In Case You Missed It!

Bob Hoffman and the York Barbell Company sold thousands of barbell and dumbbell sets - and those simple pieces of iron changed the lives of those who used them.

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

We just released book 2
in the Legacy of Iron series
on Kindle.

The title is Legacy of Iron
2 - Clouds of War.

It picks up where Legacy
of Iron ended, and continues
the action.

Of course, you'll want to read
them in the proper order,
starting with Legacy of Iron
(the first book in the series):

http://www.brookskubik.com/legacyofiron01_kindle.html

After that, read Legacy of Iron
2 - Clouds of War:

http://www.brookskubik.com/legacyofiron02_kindle.html

And be looking for the rest of the
books  in the series - we'll get
them up as fast as we can.

ALSO - I know you're waiting
for the next issue of The Dinosaur
Files. It should be up on Kindle
very soon. And it's a good issue.
It has some great workouts in
it.

Legacy of Iron Feedback - and the Answer to a Question!

John Grimek finishing a heavy military press at an exhibition in Los Angeles. You'll learn tons about Grimek and his training in the Legacy of Iron series.

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Someone asked why we're putting
the Legacy of Iron books on Kindle,
since they're already available in
hard-copy format.

"Are you still selling them in hard-
copy editions?" he asked.

The answer is - yes, we are. If
you want the hard-copy editions,
go to our products page and look
for the section headed NOVELS.

You can order them one by one or
save some bucks and order all five
of them together:

http://www.brookskubik.com/products.html

And if you want a shipping quote
on multiple books, shoot me an
email and we'll get back to you.

But back to the question - why
put the Legacy of Iron books on
Kindle?

The reason is, you've been asking
for them on Kindle!

For example, here's an email from
one of our Dinos who lives in Japan:

"I recently finished your Legacy of
Iron 1, and it was great! It helped
me get back into lifting, and I
decided I wanted to learn more
about the Olympic lifts.

I just wanted to know when you'll
be releasing the other books in
the series on Kindle?

I currently live in Japan, and
although I can get them shipped,
I still prefer the mobility of the
Kindle app.

I would love to know if they will
be going on to Kindle so I can
keep reading all of the books
in the series.

They're super addictive!

Jason N."

That's why we're doing it - to help
Dinos around the world grab the
entire series without having to
pay big bucks for shipping and
handling - and for Dinos like
Jason who just prefer the
convenience and mobility
of Kindle books.

So here are the links to the first
two Legacy of Iron books in the
Kindle bookstore:

Legacy of Iron 1

http://www.brookskubik.com/legacyofiron01_kindle.html

Legacy of Iron 2 - Clouds of War

http://www.brookskubik.com/legacyofiron02_kindle.html

We'll get the others up as fast as
we can.

By the way, there's going to be at
least one more book in the series.

Rumor has it that a guy at Dino
Headquarters is already working
on it.

So if you're a Legacy of Iron fan,
you've got a lot of great reading
coming your way.

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

The Ticking Clock

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

We got a Christmas tree the other
day - because Christmas is right
around the corner.

I'm going to a Christmas party
today - because Christmas is right
around the corner.

Trudi is finishing up her Christmas
shopping today - because, well, you
know why.

I'm hitting the iron hard and heavy
tomorrow - doing a snatch workout -
not because Christmas is right around
the corner, but because it's my training
day and snatches are on the schedule.

The point is - Christmas is right
around the corner.

So help us out by getting those
orders in - so we can pack them
up and get them out in the mail.

We want to make sure they get
there in time for the big day.

Because Christmas is right around
the corner.

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

P.S. My Legacy of Iron books make
great Christmas presents, especially
for younger Dinos who are starting
out in the Iron Game and who could
benefit from learning its amazing
and inspiring history.

They're also good for older Dinos
who enjoy reading about the way
things were back in the good old
days of hard work and heavy iron.

Go here to grab them:

The Magic of Strength Training

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

In the Middle Ages, alchemists tried to
find a way to change iron to gold.

Some men spent their entire lives in a
fruitless search for the magic formula
that would change ordinary iron into
beautiful, shining gold -- gold that would
make them wealthier and more
powerful than emperors and kings.

They never succeeded.

Iron was iron, and gold was gold.

But hundreds of years later, other men
made a remarkable discovery.

They learned how to unleash the magic of
iron.

These were men like Alan Calvert, Mark
Berry, Harry Paschall, George F. Jowett,
Sig Klein, Bob Hoffman and Peary Rader.

The men who put barbells and dumbbells --
and the secret of how to use them --
into the hands of thousands of eager
trainees around the world.

And make no mistake about it. Barbells and
dumbbells are quite literally miracle tools.

Properly used, they can transform your
physique, adding many pounds of muscle,
and building enormous strength and power.

With the right kind of training, you can double
or even triple your starting levels of strength
and development. And some trainees do even
better than that.

To me, that's magic. Far more magic than
turning iron to gold.

But it doesn't stop there.

Barbell and dumbbell training works because it
is a form of progressive resistance training. You
start by handling weights that are manageable but
challenging -- and you gradually increase your
reps in each exercise -- and then you add weight
to the bar, drop back on the number of reps, and
build back up again.

And you repeat the process over and over.

It's a series of small steps -- but every step is a
step forward. With every step, you move forwards
toward more strength, more muscle and more
power. Every step is a victory.

You end up transforming your body -- but more
than that, you end up transforming your mind,
your heart and your entire being.

You learn some of the most important lessons
a person can learn.

You learn that hard work leads to great results.
That success occurs step by step.

That whatever you can conceive and believe, you
can achieve.

That nothing can stop you.

And that you and you alone control your destiny
and your future.

And that's REAL magic.

If you train, you know what I'm talking about. If
you don't train, or if you stopped training, now's
the time to start (or start again) -- and to grab
some of that magic.

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

P.S. More than any book ever written, Legacy
of Iron captures the magic of barbell and dumbbell
training -- by taking you back to the 1930's and
letting you share the magic with a young man
named Jim Miller -- who needed a miracle -- and
found it when he discovered barbell training:

http://www.brookskubik.com/legacy_of_iron.html

here at Dino Headquarters:

for magic, look no further than the nearest
barbell." -- Brooks Kubik

My Dad's Favorite Iron Game Book

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Today is the one year anniversary of my
dad's passing.

I want to do something special today -
so I thought about what he might want.

He liked all of my books, but Legacy of
Iron was his favorite. In fact, he kept
copies of all five books in the Legacy of
Iron series on his dresser, next to his
bed.

He's gone, but they're still there.

So this is what I'm going to do:

We're going to have a great big special
for the Legacy of Iron books.

You can have any book in the series for
10 bucks plus shipping and handling -
or all five in the series for 50 clams
plus shipping and handling.

To place an order for this special offer,
shoot me an email - and let me know
what you want, where you live and
whether you use PayPal. We can do
the order by card (or check if you
live in the USA), but PayPal is the
fast and easy way to do special
orders.

This special offer applies to Legacy
of Iron books only - not to any
other books or courses.

Name the Mystery Man!

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Let's change things up and do something
a little different today.

We're going to have a little contest.

The winner gets a free copy of Legacy
of Iron.

So here's the contest.

Name the Mystery Man based on the
weights he used in his very first workout.

He was 17 years old and he weighed 165
pounds.

He began his workout with standing barbell
presses.

He used a whopping 40 pounds.

To put that in perspective, I was pressing
40 pounds at age 11 - weighing all of 86
pounds.

Or consider this.

A standard Olympic barbell weighs 45
pounds.

So that 40 pound press was less than
the weight of an unloaded Olympic bar!

He then did floor presses with a barbell.

He used 60 pounds on this one.

That's an Olympic barbell with a 5 and
a 2 1/2 on each side.

Next, he did curls with 40 pounds.

After that, he hit some straight arm
pullovers with 30 pounds.

He finished up with some barbell
triceps push-aways behind the legs
(which I guess are similar to dumbbell
triceps kickbacks).

Not sure what he used on that one.
Probably 25 or 30 pounds.

That was it.

No leg work.

No back work.

And some pretty light weights.

In fact, some VERY light weights.

It wasn't much of a workout - and it gave
no hint of the strength and muscle mass
that he would one day develop.

And yet, he became an Iron Game legend.

Can you guess his name?

Send your answer to Dino Headquarters
with an email using the subject line:

Mystery Man

One guess per reader, and the first reader
with the right answer wins the book.

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

Grimek vs. The Dumbbells (Part 2)

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Note: This is part 2 of a true story that I
began in yesterday's email. If you missed
part 1, here it is at The Dinosaur Training
Blog:

http://dinosaurtraining.blogspot.com/2016/01/grimek-vs-dumbbells-part-1.html

I post all of my daily emails at the Blog, so
if you ever miss an email, go to the Blog to
read it.

Also, be aware that readers sometimes drop
off the email list for one cybergremlin reason
or another. I send emails every day but Sunday,
so if you don't get them for a few days you have
dropped off the list. If that happens, go to my
website and sign back up for the emails.

And now -- here's the rest of the story.

Grimek vs. The Dumbbells (Part 2)

Klein's words sting the young powerhouse.

He tries again -- and this time he manages
to clean the two dumbbells and push them
over his head in a single wobbly press.

He lowers the heavy dumbbells and tells
Klein that he'll be back in two weeks to
lift them properly.

Klein doesn't buy it.

"Fine," he says. "The dumbbells will be here
any time you want to try them."

Grimek goes home and starts doing dumbbell
presses like a madman.

Two weeks later he walks back into Klein's
gym, grabs the dumbbells, pulls them to his
shoulders, and starts pressing them so hard
and fast that it makes Klein's head spin.

After 15 reps, the joke's on Klein.

"That's enough!" he cries. "That's enough!"

Grimek lowers the dumbbells, and Klein walks
over to congratulate him.

"Now you see what a little practice and
persistence can do," Klein tells him.

Grimek nods.

It was true -- and it was a lesson well learned.

It's also an example of how Grimek approached
any challenge. He believed that he could do
anything if only he worked hard at it.

Many years later, someone asked Grimek the
secret of his success.

"Hard work," he answered.

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

P.S. That entire story appears in chapter 28 of
my book, Legacy of Iron. The  book brings you
dozens of true, riveting stories of the old time
champions -- teaching you how they trained,
what they ate, and what made them great.
Go here to grab the little monster -- and if
you already have it, be sure to grab the
other books in the series:

Muscles in the Military

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Today is Veteran's Day in the USA,
so I want to begin by giving a big
shout out to all of the Dinos who
have served their country -- or
who are doing so now.

To all of you, THANK YOU for your
service!

In honor of the day, I thought I'd
share some fun facts about muscles
in the military.

1. The famous old-time strongman,
Clevio Massimo, once performed the
manual of arms using a 125-pound
soldier instead of the rifle normally
used for the drill.

2. Bob Hoffman was an infantry
soldier in World War One, and
was in the thick of the fighting
in France. Think how the Iron
Game would have changed if
he had been killed in action.

3. Norb Schemansky fought in
Germany, and found a 400-pound
Berg-Hantel barbell set after a
battle. He tried to take it with
him, but it was too heavy and
he had to leave it behind.

4. The German Strongman, Herman
Goerner, was a prisoner of war during
World War One. He trained in the prison
camp with a barbell made from logs.

5. During World War Two, Strength
and Health ran a regular series about
barbell men in the armed services,
and included photos of their "gyms"
featuring homemade barbells and
dumbbells assembled from tires
sheet metal, cogwheels, pipes
and axles.

a. In other words, where there's a
will, there's a way!

6. George Eiferman, the 1948 Mr.
America, served in the Navy and
trained his legs while on ship by
climbing tall ladders from the cargo
hold to the deck -- while carrying a
100 pound sack of flour on his
shoulders.

7. Frank Spellman landed on the
Normandy Beaches and fought with
the Allied Army in France and Germany.
One night, as he was sleeping, a German
tank rolled right over him while he was in
his fox-hole! Luckily, he was not hurt --
and went on to win a gold medal in
weightlifting at the 1948 Olympics.

I know that some of our Dinos have
stories of their own about muscles in
the military. If you have one, send it
in so I can share it with your fellow
Dinos!

As always, thanks for reading and have
a great day. If you train today, make it
a good one!

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

Four Left -- and Going Fast!

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

It's my birthday, so I was going to
take the rest of the day off, but I
need to give you two quick updates:

1. Hoodies, Sweatshirts, T-shirts and
Muscle Shirts.

We're clearing out all of our current
inventory of sweatshirts, t-shirts,
muscle shirts, and hoodies, and
we're almost completely out of
stock.

We're not going to re-stock for
awhile, so if you want something,
you need to act now.

For example, we have just 4 Gray Hair
and Black Iron sweatshirts -- one XL
and three 3XL. That's it. No other
sizes.

We have very limited numbers of other
items -- and we're out of many sizes
and colors in them.

If you'd like something, send me an
email and ask if we have it in stock
before placing your order.

2. A Chance to Win 5 Free Books!

Carl Lanore, is running a special
contest on SuperHuman Radio this
week and next.

Here's how to enter the contest:

When you listen to SuperHuman Radio,
pay careful attention at the commercial
breaks.

During one of the commercial breaks
in each hour of the show, Carl will
announce the secret word.

He'll do this on each show.

When you hear it, you send Carl an email
identifying the secret word -- and that
enters you in the contest.

Note: Do NOT send me an email with the
secret word. Send it to Carl. He'll give you
the email address on air.

Carl will draw the winner's name at the
end of next week.

There will be one winner and one winner
only -- and the prize will be pretty darn
good.

How good?

Get this . . .

The prize is an autographed set of all
five of my Legacy of Iron books, starting
with this little monster:

http://www.brookskubik.com/legacy_of_iron.html

With shipping and handling, that has a
retail value of something like 150 clams.
Plus, they're darn good books. Readers
love them.

I'll be on Physical Culture Radio at
12:00 noon EST tomorrow, so you
can listen to the show and learn
the secret word then:

http://superhumanradio.com/

Thanks for reading, and remember -- if
you want a shirt, hoodie or sweatshirt,
send an email asap and see if we have
your size in stock.

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

P.S. Thanks for all the birthday wishes!

The Heroes in Our Lives

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

The sudden death of wrestling legend Roddy
Piper caused a huge outpouring of grief among
wrestling fans the world over -- including many
Dinos. Quite a few of us grew up watching pro
wrestling. Heck, some Dinos have done some
pro wrestling -- and some are still doing it.

But this isn't a post about pro wrestling.

It's a post about heroes.

The heroes in our lives -- and what they mean
to us.

Over the years, I've noticed that many of us
in the Iron Game and Physical Culture world
share similar beginnings.

Many of us decided to start training when we
saw a magazine cover with a massively
developed bodybuidling champion on the
cover.

We took one look, and we said, "I want to
be like him!"

Or we saw someone on a wrestling show --
or we saw a champion in another sport --
or a well-devleoped actor in a television
show or in the movies -- and we said,
"I want to be like him!"

Or perhaps we met a champion in person --
and it made such an impression that we
decided we wanted to start training right
then and there.

We also remember seeing feats of strength --
great sports plays -- comeback victories --
the times the underdog battled back to beat
the odds -- world record lifts -- and other
inspiring and motivating performances.

They all come together and help to fuel
our collective strength training imagination.

They make us strong.

Make no mistake about it. We all need heroes.
It's a very deep, primal need. Every ancient
culture had its own heroes. We remember
many of them today: Hercules, Achilles,
Odysseus, Hiawatha. The list could go on
and on.

Here's an interesting exercise.

Take a piece of paper and a pen or pencil --
go into a quiet place -- and turn off your cell
phone, your mobile devices and your computer.
Take the phone off the hook. Give yourself 30
to 60 minutes of silence.

Now start to list all of the heroes of your
youth. Write them down on the sheet of paper.
As you move along, include the great moments
that inspire and motivate you.

Turn off your self-censor. Don't make a politically
correct list, and don't make one that you think
I or anyone else might approve.

Make YOUR list -- and make an honest list.

Include everyone and everything that was
important to you when you were getting started,
and include everyone and everything that became
important to you later on in your journey.

Use stars and underlining and circles to make
the extra important people and events stand
out.

When you're finished, put the list away in a
secret place. It's your list. Don't share it with
anyone else -- and for gosh sake, don't put it
on Facebook or share it on the Internet. Don't
email it to me. It's for your eyes only.

This is your personal list of people, things and
events that motivate and inspire you. Everything
on your list has helped you on your journey to
might and muscle.

Keep the list, and study it from time to time.
Remind yourself of what got you started. Use
the memories to help keep you going.

As always, thanks for reading and have a
great day. If you train today, make it a good
one.

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik
