A Special Bonus - The 10 Week Deadlift Program!

Rich Abbott pulls a heavy deadlift and sets a new Master's Record!

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

I just got a quick heads up on
something from my buddy John
Wood.

John has released two excellent
Trap Bar Training Guides in
Kindle format.

One of the great things about
Kindle is that it lets you add to
a book very quickly and easily.

And that's what John is doing
with the Trap Bar Training
Guide
No. 2.

He's adding something new.

It's a 10 Week Training Program
for the Deadlift - and it's a really
good program - and it's perfect
for Trap Bar training.

If you already have a copy of
the Trap Bar Training Guide
No.
2, you'll be able to read
the new material as soon as
it loads.

In other words, your current
copy will update automatically.
If you don't have a copy, go
ahead and grab one asap. The
10 Week Deadlift Program will
either be in the book by the
time you read this post or will
go in automatically a little later.

Here's the link:

The World Record Workout

Setting any kind of record - from a personal record to a World record - requires hard work, hard training and a mountain of determination. And, of course, it also requires the right kind of training - which is what we're going to cover today.

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Yesterday I mentioned a famous old-timer
who went on a special training program to
increase his deadlift.

He trained once every six days.

That was it.

Nothing else.

Did it work?

Yeah, you could say that.

He gained 20 pounds of muscle and built
so much strength that he ended up setting
a World Record in the deadlift!

You can find the World Record program right
here in Chalk and Sweat - it's program
no. 49 - and it's pretty darn effective:

Deadlift Partials and Deadlift Lockouts

John Grimek was one of many old-timers who used heavy partials in his training - and they worked pretty darn well for him.

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Two quick notes, and then we'll answer a
very common question about partial
deadlifts and deadlift lockouts.

The July-August Dinosaur Files

The July-August issue of The Dinosaur
Files has landed - and readers are
loving it. Go here to grab your copy:

http://www.brookskubik.com/dinosaurfiles-julyaugust2018.html

Articles include the true story of two
guys who trained on a tropical island
back in the 1930s - with just a barbell
and dumbbell set - and how well they
did . . . .

Along with two great workouts to
follow when you're pressed for
time . . .

And a very nice article on the
stabilizing principle, and how to
use it to keep on making regular
and injury-free progress.

George F. Jowett's Progressive
Barbell Training Course

This little gem dates back to the 1920's
or 30's - but I've issued it again in a
modern reprint edition. We have a very
limited number of copies, so if you want
one, act fast.

To order the Jowett course:

Order a copy of my Dinosaur Training
book - but include a note (or send me
an email) saying that you actually want
the Jowett course:

http://www.brookskubik.com/dinosaur_training.html

Be sure to include the note or send the
email so we know what you actually
want!

If you use PayPal, feel free to shoot
me an email and ask me to send you
a PayPal request for the Progressive
Barbell Course. Be sure to give your
PayPal email and your shipping
address.

Progressive Barbell Training is a
great old-school course - with plenty
of line drawings to show you how to how to perform all of the barbell and
dumbbell exercises in it.

Good stuff - and a very nice link to the
past.

Partial Deadlifts and Deadlift
Lockouts

Not long ago I released a brand new
strength and power course covering
heavy partials.

It's a great course for building bone, tendon
and ligament strength  . . .  building muscular
strength . . . and increasing your testosterone
levels the natural way (by increasing your
bone mass - yes, the two are related - and
if you increase bone mass, you increase
T levels).

You can grab it right here:

http://www.brookskubik.com/dinosaurstrengthandpower-02.html

Of course, I've been buried in questions
about heavy partials ever since I released
the new course.

One of the common questions is this:
Which is better - partial deadlifts and dead-
lift lockouts from blocks - or partial dead-
lifts and deadlift lockouts in the rack?

So here's the answer.

If you use a straight bar for your deadlifts,
it really doesn't matter as long as you use
something that sets the bar at the right
starting height.

For some of you, blocks work fine - even
something as simple and low tech as a
pair of concrete blocks for the plates to
rest on at the start of the exercise.

For others (especially the taller guys), you
may need to use a rack to set the bar at
the correct height.

That said, I should add two important notes:

1. Partial deadlifts and deadlift lockouts can
chew up the knurling on your bar - so don't do
them with a high quality OL bar. Use an old bar
where it doesn't matter.

2. Don't drop a bar onto rack pins - you can
bend it.

If you use a Trap Bar for your deadlift lockouts
and partial deadlifts, you need to use blocks.

A standard Trap Bar won't fit into a standard
power rack.

Of course, some of you may have an extra-
long Trap Bar made for rack work. If you do,
you can use it for partials and lockouts in
the rack.

As always, thanks for reading and have a
great day. If you train today, make it a good
one!

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

Some Very Useful Training Advice

Just when you thought there was nothing new under the sun - nothing else to learn - and that you had tried pretty much everything there was to try . . .

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

The March 2018 issue of The Dinosaur
Files strength training newsletter has
some very useful training advice from
your fellow Dinos.

So I thought I'd highlight several things
you'll find in this month's issue:

On pages 11 and 12 . . .

The World's Toughest Leg Specialization
Program

If you want to build Quadzilla thighs, this
is how to do it - and it will also help you
pack on strength and muscle throughout
your entire body.

Of course, it's not for everybody - you have
to be tough as nails to use it - because it's
an incredibly difficult program.

On page 3 . . .

The World's Simplest Bodyweight
Training Program

If you think bodyweight training only works
if you do superhuman gymnastic moves  or
other seemingly impossible exercises, think
again.

And get this - you only train on it TWO TIMES
a week! How's that for fast, effective and super
efficient?

On page 4 . . .

Supplement Dangers You Probably Don't
Know About

You probably don't know that certain popular
supplements may cause cancer - and that's
something you probably want to know if you're
thinking about using them.

On page 3 . . .

The Best Way for Beginners to Get Started
in Strength and Muscle Building

Old-school advice about how they got started
"back in the day" - it worked great then, and it
will work great now.

On pages 4 and 5 . . .

How a Social Media Fad Can Sabotage Your
Training

There's a popular trend on social media that
can de-rail your training - and you probably
don't realize how much it is affecting you -
and how bad it can be for your workouts.

On pages 8 and 9 . . .

How to Build Super Strength with Sledge
Hammer Training

You probably never thought about using
sledge hammers this way - but it can help
build some serious strength in your hands,
arms and shoulders.

On page 9 . . .

An Anti-Inflammatory Drink

A simple home-made drink that uses some
things you probably have in your kitchen
cupboard. It works for one Dino, and it can
work for you!

On page 10 . . .

A Martial Arts Expert's Deadlifting Tip

One of our readers takes a special tip learned
from his martial arts teacher - and uses it in
his deadlifting workouts.

It's simple but effective - and it will help take
your deadlifting to an entire new level.

And, of course, there's much more.

The World Record Workout

World and Olympic champion John Davis shows great form in an old-school, split style snatch. Like all old-time champions, Davis trained hard, heavy and smart.

That was it.

Try this Unusual Workout Schedule!

The deadlift is a terrific exercise - and it might be even better if you follow this unusual training schedule.

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

I received a ton of responses to yesterday's
email about how training less and resting
more can help you avoid over-training -
and thus, lead to better gains in strength
and muscle.

Some responses were from readers who
just didn't believe it - and some of them
were downright angry - and two or three
of them even said so in language that
was a little less than polite. They almost
scorched my eye-balls.

Others agreed with the message - and
that's not surprising, because the kind
of old-school training schedules I talked
about yesterday have been helping
trainees build strength and muscle for
well over 100 years.

One of the most interesting replies came
from a reader who wrote:

Hi Brooks,

I'm training two days a week now:
Tues and Thurs.

Every second Sunday I deadlift.

I feel that I am progressing faster in
deadlifts than if I did it once a week,
as I often add 5 or even 10 kilos in
every deadlift workout.

Granted, I'm still an intermediate
strength-wise, but I am not slowing
down.

Less IS more.

Thanks!

Cameron

Thanks for the feedback, Cameron -
and thanks for sharing your training
schedule.

It's very unusual - but very interesting -
and it would probably work very well for
many of our fellow Dinos.

If anyone else is following a similar
training schedule - or if you give this
one a try - shoot me an email and let
me know how it works for you!

As always, thanks for reading and have
a great day. if you train today, make it
a good one!

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

P.S. You can find many other unusual

Are Deadlifts Extinct?

Rich Abbott pulls some heavy iron - and proves that the deadlift isn't extinct. But many trainees have never performed a heavy deadlift - or any other heavy exercise. What does that tell us about the future of the Iron Game?

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Two quick notes and then we'll talk
iron.

1. Dinosaur T-shirts

We have a couple of XL blue shirts
with white letters, and a couple of
2XL gray with black letters - and
that's it until the next time we do
any shirts.

If you want one, grab it now - by
shooting me an email.

They're $19.95 plus s&h.

First come, first served, so
if you want one, move fast.

2. Black Iron: The John Davis
Story

We have 10 copies left, and I'm
not going to reprint the book, so
this is it. If you want one, shoot
me an email.

They are $34.95 plus s&h.

3. Are Deadlifts Extinct?
One of our older Dinos - a man in
his 50's - was talking to a young
strength coach the other day.

The older Dino mentioned that his
training had changed as he had
grown older, but that he was still
doing deadlifts and still pulling a
good weight.

The young guy was astonished.

"Are you still doing deadlifts?" he
asked. "Nobody does those any
more!"

And then it was our older Dino's
turn to be astonished.

He shared the story with me, and
frankly, I'm kind of astonished,
too.

It made me wonder what the Iron
Game is going to look like in 10 or
20 years.

Will anyone still do deadlifts?

Or squats?

Or overhead lifting?

The farmer's walk?

Heavy awkward objects?

Trap Bar deadlifts?

Bench presses?

Power rack training?

Heavy partials?

Heavy support lifts?

Shrugs?

Heavy dumbbell training?

Thick bar training?

I don't know. I hope that these
exercises are around for a long,
long time - but maybe they won't
be.

Look at the bent press.

The bent press was a hugely
popular lift back in the 1890's
through 1910 or the 1920's.

Then it gradually began to fade
into obscurity.

In the 1930's, 40's and 50's, a
few men still knew how to do it -
and a small handful of men were
really good at it - but most trainees
never tried it and had no idea how
to do it.

In the 60's, 70's and 80's it was
almost extinct. Certainly it was on
the Endangered Exercises List.

When kettlebells became popular,
the bent press once again became
popular - but performed with kettle-
bells, not with barbells or dumbbells
(the way almost all of the old-timers
did the lift).

So exercises do come and go - and
they sometimes disappear almost
completely. In other words, they
become extinct.

Will the deadlift become extinct?

I don't know - but if anyone helps
to keep it alive, it will be Dinosaurs
like you and me.

As always, thanks for reading and
have a great day. If you train today,
make it a good one!

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik
