Brooks Kubik's Strength Training Collection - List No. 2 - Iron Man's Lifting News

Peary Rader's wonderful Lifting News magazine is almost impossible to find at any price - but here's a very special chance to grab some vintage copies of this excellent old-school strength and power publication at a rock-bottom, bargain basement !

Brooks Kubik's  Strength Training Collection

List No. 2 – Iron Man Lifting News

I'm selling 32 issues of Iron Man’s Lifting News, published by Peary Rader back in the 1960's. These are great magazines that focused on strength and power training, weightlifting and powerlifting. With articles by and about top lifters and their training, these magazines are a goldmine of old-school strength and power training.

Peary Rader was the founder of Iron Man magazine, which he edited and published for 50 years before he retired and sold the magazine. You've probably seen old issues of Peary Rader's Iron Man magazine. But you may not have ever seen any old issues of Lifting News - because not many issues were published, and they're very rare and hard to find. So this is a BIG opportunity to grab some magazines you might not ever find again.

This cover photo shows Don Cundy pulling a World Record deadlift. Lifting News covered many of the pioneers of powerlifting, as well as Olympic weightlifting champions.

The price is just $20.00 per issue plus shipping and handling. And if you order 10 or more issues, I'll give you a 10 percent discount.

All orders will be shipped by USPS Priority Mail. Please note that in filling orders we are limited to what we can fit into a USPS Priority Mail shipping box.

Everything listed below is first come, first served, and I only have one of each set, so if you want something, order it ASAP by emailing me at:

info@brookskubik.com

When you email, please give me your shipping address and preferred payment method. PayPal, credit card and check are fine for anyone living in the USA. However, we can only accept PayPal and credit card for orders outside the USA.

Note: if you prefer to pay by credit card, do NOT send your cc info by email. When I respond to you, I'll let you know how to place a secure cc order.

Because these are one of a kind items, we cannot replace them or refund the purchase price, so please give me a secure shipping address, preferably where someone will be there to sign for the package when it is delivered.

We reserve the right to decline any order based on the cost of shipping, delivery issues/concerns in a given country or any other reason.

Shoot me an email if you have any questions!

Vintage Books and Magazines

I've got tons of old books and magazines for sale - including two killer items I just listed on eBay - as well as tons of old issues of Bob Hoffman's classic Strength and Health magazine from the 40's, 50's and 60's. See today's Blog post for links and details.

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Trudi and I are planning to move to
the Pacific Northwest in the not too
distant future, so I'm selling all of
my duplicate books and magazines.

Here are two of them that I just
listed on eBay:

Peary Rader's Iron Man Jan. 1978

The Illustrated History of Physical
Culture

I also have tons of old issues of Strength
and Health magazine from the 40's, 50's
and 60's - shoot me an email if you're
interested in buying some for your
collection. You can reach me at:

info@brookskubik.com

I'll be listing plenty of other great stuff
on eBay, so keep an eye open for the
new listings as they go up.

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

587 Pounds of Books and Magazines

Last month we sold 587 pounds of books and magazines - including many rare issues of Strength and Health, IronMan and other classic magazines.

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Last month we sold 587 pounds of books
and magazines.

I know, because we pay by weight to ship
them.

We sent two big shipments of old books
and magazines to two different collectors.

A pallet load to each one.

We sold the very last copy of Strength, Muscle and Power last month - and we're not doing another printing any time soon. Keep reading and I'll explain why.

Plus, we completely sold out of Strength,
Muscle and Power.

And we filled tons of smaller orders.

I have a huge Iron Game library, with
tons of duplicates, and I'm selling the
duplicate and triplicate items because
Trudi and I are planning to move some-
time in the not-too-distant future.

Perhaps out to the Pacific Northwest,
perhaps elsewhere - we'll see - and
maybe we'll just travel and try a few
different places.

I can't take all of it with me - and I don't
want to bury anything in a storage unit -
so I'm working hard to find good homes
for it all.

That's also why we're not reprinting
Strength, Muscle and Power.

The last thing I need right now is another
2,000 books to store.

And it's why we sold out of Black Iron:
The John Davis Story and didn't print
any more.

We sold our last copy of Black Iron: The John Davis Story in 2017, and we're not doing another printing.
It's also why we're selling our Dinosaur
Training t-shirts at the Retro-Strength
Shop
. We don't have to keep a big inven-
tory of shirts.

So - five things which people keep
asking me:

Q. Do you have any copies of Strength,
Muscle and Power left?

A. No, we're all sold out.

But Bill Hinbern still has some - not many,
but *some* - so if you want one, grab it
from him:

If you act fast, you may be able to grab a copy of Strength, Muscle and Power from Bill Hinbern - but he doesn't have many left, so if you want one, contact Bill asap!

http://superstrengthtraining.com/strength-muscle-and-power-brooks-kubik

Q. Are you running low on any of your
other books?

Yes, we're getting near the end for the
Legacy of Iron books.

The 1,000 Pound Total is book 3 in the Legacy of Iron series. We still have full sets of all five books in the series - but not too many of them - and we're not going to print any more. If you want to grab a set, shoot me an email.
If you need one or more to complete your
set, shoot me an email and let me know
where you live and what you need - and
I'll work up a shipping quote for you.

For this and many other Dinosaur training t-shirts - as well as other cool strongman stuff - go to the Retro-Strength Shop at https://www.retrostrength.com/
 Q. Do you still carry Dinosaur Training
shirts?

A. We do, but you have to order them
from The Retro-Strength Shop:

https://www.retrostrength.com/

Head over, take a look around and
see what looks good - there are many
different Dino shirts and many other
cool strongman shirts.

Old mags from the 1940's - crammed with rare photos and priceless training advice!

Q. Do you have a list of your duplicate
old books and magazines for sale?

A. I'm working on one, but another
collector gets the first look at it.

After that, I'll start selling everything
on the list item by item.

I'll keep you updated by email.

Q. Are you going to keep on running
the Dinosaur business after you move?

A. Yes, I will. You know what they say -
once a Dino, always a Dino.

But we'll be moving more and more to
Kindle and PDF books and courses -
just because we won't be able to
keep a big inventory with us - so
if there are things on your wish
list and you want them in hard-
copy editions, grab them sooner
rather than later.

You can find everything right here
at Dino Headquarters:

Chalk and Sweat is one of our most popular training books. Right now, we have about three boxes left - which sounds like a lot, but they'll go fast - so if you want a copy, grab it now.

Strength But No Power

Strength but no power is no fun at all . . . but that's exactly what we had a Dino headquarters today.

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Today's email is running late because we've
been without power for most of the day -
and when it finally came back on, we had no
internet connection!

You see, it snowed last night - lots of wet,
heavy snow - and we live in a part of town
with lots of old trees - so of course some
branches came crashing down not too far
away from us - and just like that it was
"lights out!"

In other words, for most of the day I had
strength but no power - which is an
unusual thing.

But now we're back up and running.

And once again, I have strength AND
power.

Anyhow, I wanted to mention a couple of
quick things.

1. Strength and Health Mags

I have a bunch of duplicate copies of old
issues of Strength and Health - and I"m
going to be selling them on eBay.

But I thought I'd give the Dino Nation the
first crack at them.

So if you're interested in buying a complete
12-issue set of Strength and Health from the
40's, 50's or 60's, shoot me an email and ask
for prices and a shipping quote.

I have full 12-issue sets of most years in that
period - the 40's through the 60's - but they'll
go fast - and for most years I have just one
set - so if you're interested - move fast. It's
first come, first served.

Shipping overseas would run an arm and a
leg, so we're only going to be able to offer
these to our Dinos in the USA and Canada.
My apologies to the overseas Dinos - it's a
post office thing - we don't like it either!

2. New Retro Strength Stuff

John Wood has some great new stuff at the
Retro Strength Store - check it out:

https://www.retrostrength.com/shop/

3. The February Dinosaur Files

Go here to grab the February issue of The
Dinosaur Files strength training newsletter
in a downloadable and printable PDF format:

http://www.brookskubik.com/dinosaur-files-february2018pdf.html

Also - you can grab the Oct, Nov, Dec and
Jan issues right here:

http://brookskubik.com/dinosaur_files.html

I'm working on the March issue right now,
and we'll get it as soon as we can - and yes,
it's going to be another good one!

More soon - and sorry for getting this to you
so late! Power outages are no fun!

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

BEFORE YOU LEAVE . . .

We have more than 25 Dinosaur Training books and courses in the Kindle bookstore - here are several of them - head on over and take a look at the others:

The Unhealthiest Man in the Room

Many of the old-time champions - such as George Hackenschmidt, shown above - lived long, healthy and active lives. They trained for strength AND health - and it worked!

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

One quick note before we talk training.

1. Vintage Books and Magazines for
Sale!

Since Trudi and I are planning to move to
the Pacific Northwest, I need to do some
downsizing - so I'm selling duplicate copies
of vintage strength training and body-
building books and magazines from my
collection.

It's a big collection, and there's a lot
to sell.

So I've set up an eBay store to make it
happen as fast and easily as possible.
Here's the first listing - a classic issue of
Peary Rader's old Iron man magazine from
1967:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/232661358800?ssPageName=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649

Of course, there will be lots more to
come - so if you're looking for vintage
books and magazines, you're going to
see a ton of great stuff in the next
couple of months.

2. The Unhealthiest Man in the Room

One of our longtime Dinos grew up in Santa
Monica and used to train at some of the world
famous southern California gyms - and got to
know a number of top bodybuilders.

He actually trained with some of the guys on
covers of the muscle magazines we read when
we were kids.

He often went to the big bodybuilding contests.

One year, he went to  a big contest, and ended
up sitting next to one of his friends - a man
who ranks as one of the top bodybuilders of
all time. A man who began training back in
the day when you trained for strength and
health as well as muscular development.

The big focus that year was on ultra-extreme
muscular definition.

To place in the top 10 that year, you needed
to more than "cuts" - you needed to be cut
to the bone.

To win you needed shredded wheat on your
wheat - and then you needed to shred it some
more.

To get "the look" the contestants trained for
many hours every day - and did tons of cardio
training on top of their bodybuilding workouts -
and followed incredibly severe diets.

And yes, they undoubtedly took plenty of
different supplements - and plenty of drugs.

And all of that wreaks havoc on the human
body.

The famous bodybuilding champion turned
to our fellow Dino and said:

"From now on, the winner of the contest
will be the unhealthiest man in the
room.
"

And that summed it up pretty well.

I don't follow modern bodybuilding - and
one reason is because of the health issue.

I'm not interested in a sport where the
winner is the unhealthiest man in the
room.

Instead, I focus on lifelong strength and
health.

If you're reading this, that's probably your
focus as well.

And perhaps we can lead by example - and
encourage others to focus on the very same
thing:

Lifelong strength and health.

As always, thanks for reading and have a
great day. If you train today, make it a
good one.

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

P.S. Gray Hair and Black iron is a must
read for anyone training for lifelong strength
and health:

Have You Seen This?

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

I've decided to start selling duplicate copies
of my vintage strength training and body-
building books and magazines on eBay.

And I'd love it if they all ended up in really
good hands - as in, members of the Dino
Nation.

So here's the first listing - do me a favor
and bid on it - because I really want these
to go to serious Iron Slingers:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/232661358800?ssPageName=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649

And yes, there will be many more items
listed over the coming weeks and months!

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

P.S. This one has a killer article by Peary
Rader on the breathing squat - as well as
articles on kettlebell juggling, PHA training,
and how Larry Scott trained.
