Two New Ones from John Wood

Would you like know the EXACT training program followed by the Canadian Colossus, Louis Cyr? If you do, you're in luck - because it's available right here!

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

John Wood has released two great new
training books on Kindle.

Head over and check them out.

The first is a revised, expanded version
of George F. Jowett's classic from way
back in 1927.

It's a biography of Louis Cyr, the legendary
Canadian strongman.

The title tells the story:

The Strongest Man That Ever Lived.

You can find it right here in the Kindle
Store:

This updated edition includes three bonus
articles on Louis Cyr - including a rare
interview with Cyr right before one of
his biggest contests - back in 1896 - in
which he reveals his exact daily training
program - which is something I bet you've
never seen before.

Think about that for a second - Louis
Cyr's actual training program - from

What might you learn from that, eh?

Anyhow, the book is pretty darn good -
and I recommend it highly.

John's other new release is an old muscle-
building course originally written by David
Webster. John has the rights to it, so this
is strictly on the up and up, of course.

It's called The Complete Physique
Course,
Lessons 1 and 2.

Go here to check it out:

The course covers a lot of ground:

Lesson I: Free-Hand Exercises

a. Arm and Chest Exercises

Deadlift Partials and Deadlift Lockouts

John Grimek was one of many old-timers who used heavy partials in his training - and they worked pretty darn well for him.

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Two quick notes, and then we'll answer a
very common question about partial
deadlifts and deadlift lockouts.

The July-August Dinosaur Files

The July-August issue of The Dinosaur
Files has landed - and readers are
loving it. Go here to grab your copy:

Articles include the true story of two
guys who trained on a tropical island
back in the 1930s - with just a barbell
and dumbbell set - and how well they
did . . . .

Along with two great workouts to
follow when you're pressed for
time . . .

And a very nice article on the
stabilizing principle, and how to
use it to keep on making regular
and injury-free progress.

George F. Jowett's Progressive
Barbell Training Course

This little gem dates back to the 1920's
or 30's - but I've issued it again in a
modern reprint edition. We have a very
limited number of copies, so if you want

dumbbell exercises in it.

Good stuff - and a very nice link to the
past.

Partial Deadlifts and Deadlift
Lockouts

Not long ago I released a brand new
strength and power course covering
heavy partials.

It's a great course for building bone, tendon
and ligament strength  . . .  building muscular
strength . . . and increasing your testosterone
levels the natural way (by increasing your
bone mass - yes, the two are related - and
if you increase bone mass, you increase
T levels).

You can grab it right here:

Of course, I've been buried in questions
about heavy partials ever since I released
the new course.

One of the common questions is this:
Which is better - partial deadlifts and dead-
lift lockouts from blocks - or partial dead-
lifts and deadlift lockouts in the rack?

So here's the answer.

If you use a straight bar for your deadlifts,
it really doesn't matter as long as you use
something that sets the bar at the right
starting height.

For some of you, blocks work fine - even
something as simple and low tech as a
pair of concrete blocks for the plates to
rest on at the start of the exercise.

For others (especially the taller guys), you
may need to use a rack to set the bar at
the correct height.

That said, I should add two important notes:

1. Partial deadlifts and deadlift lockouts can
chew up the knurling on your bar - so don't do
them with a high quality OL bar. Use an old bar
where it doesn't matter.

2. Don't drop a bar onto rack pins - you can
bend it.

If you use a Trap Bar for your deadlift lockouts
and partial deadlifts, you need to use blocks.

A standard Trap Bar won't fit into a standard
power rack.

Of course, some of you may have an extra-
long Trap Bar made for rack work. If you do,
you can use it for partials and lockouts in
the rack.

As always, thanks for reading and have a
great day. If you train today, make it a good
one!

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

Seven Strength Training Tips

Here are 7 strength training and muscle
building tips to help keep your workouts
zipping along - and to help you get the
very best possible results from every
minute of your training.

1. Visualize success.

Set aside 10 minutes every single day -
and use the time to visualize whatever
you want to achieve.

Create a movie - with you as the lead -
doing the things you need to do - and
getting the results you want.

Make this a regular part of each and
every day.

2. Stay on track.

Decide what you want to do - set a
goal - make a plan - and then carry
through on it - without getting side-
tracked by social media.

3. Focus on progression.

When you train, focus on making each
workout better than the one before it -
OR - as part of a series of workouts,
all of which, taken together, help you
achieve the goals you have set for
yourself.

4. Maximize your recovery.

You can't gain if you don't recover from
your workouts.

The critical thing is not just to train hard
and heavy - it's to recover from your hard
and heavy workouts.

5. Do less rather than more.

Tommy Kono used to call this Quality
Training.

The idea is to get maximum benefit
from your workouts in the minimum
amount of time - with the minimum
amount of exercises, sets, and reps.

I sometimes call this Championship
Training - and there's a reason for
that.

It builds champions.

6. Concentrate!

When you train, concentrate on the
task at hand.

Treat it seriously.

Your workouts deserve your full and
undivided attention.

That includes your warm-up sets -
and your work sets - and the time
in between sets and exercises.

7.  Focus on the goal.

Set a goal, and work towards it with
unwavering determination.

Don't change goals more often than
you change socks.

Decide what you want to do - and then
start working to make it happen.

Don't get distracted.

Program-hopping is a huge problem for
most trainees - and so is goal-hopping.

So there you are - 7 strength training
tips that will help rocket you to the top
of the Iron Mountain. Give them a try -
they'll make a HUGE difference for you.

As always, thanks for reading and have
a great day. If you train today, make it
a good one!

Also - be sure to grab The July-August
issue of The Dinosaur Files - the little
monster will help keep you heading in
the right direction:
