12 Keys to Strength and Muscle Mass (Part 6)

John Grimek knew how to train for maximum gains in strength and muscle mass.

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

One quick note, and then we'll talk
iron.

each issue of The Dinosaur Files as it
comes out, that's fine - shoot me an
email and I'll tell you how to do it.

2. Twelve Keys to Strength and
Muscle Mass

Here's tip no. 8 in my special series
on building strength and muscle mass.

This one is for everyone, of every age,
and every level of strength and
development - from beginners to
intermediates to advanced trainees -
and from trainees in their teens to
those in their 60's, 70's, 80's or 90's.

Are you ready?

Here it is:

When you train, CONCENTRATE!

Most people - including most people who
train, and the vast majority of gym owners,
coaches, trainers and folks who write about
training (all of whom should know better) -
erroneously believe that strength training
and muscle building is an entirely physical
activity.

They think it involves the body, and nothing
more.

After all, isn't that why we call it "physical
training?"

Or "physical conditioning"?

No, the reason we call it that is because it's
convenient shorthand and because we are
using the term through simple force of habit.

In reality, what we do when we train is
better described as "physical and mental
training" - or better yet, "mind, body and
spirit training."

And if you think that this sounds a little
bit zen, it is.

Strength training and muscle building are
very similar to the traditional martial arts -
and require a very similar focus.

Mr. America and Mr. Universe winner Bill
pearl once wrote a training book called
Keys to the Inner Universe.

The title says it all - and says it perfectly.

When you train, you must be fully engaged.

You must be aware of every nuance of
every inch of every rep that you perform.

You need to be alert - and you need to
focus exclusively on the task at hand.

You must ruthlessly shut out all forms of
distraction.

No talking - no television - no radio - no
social media - no monkey phones - and
no reading in-between sets.

It's you and the iron - and the iron will
tell you quite a bit if only you listen.

This applies during your warm-up sets
as well as your heavy sets.

In fact, it applies to every second of your
workout - and ideally, it should start on
the way to the workout.

Take some time, clear your mind, get
focused, and prepare for the coming
workout.

Wrap yourself around every rep that
you perform.

As others have said, YOU MUST BECOME
THE
REP.

That's one of the biggest secrets of true
championship training - and it's a lesson
you MUST learn and apply if you want to
build the maximum degree of strength
and muscle mass that you are genetically
capable of developing.

I teach a simple system that will help you
develop your powers of concentration to
the absolute maximum. You can find it in
these books:

Strength
and Development

And make no mistake. This is BIG
MEDICINE.

I know that it's fun to read about new
and different exercises - or new and
different set/rep systems - or new and
different workouts - or about new and
different super supplements.

But this simple advice - CONCENTRATE
WHEN YOU TRAIN! - will do you more
good than anything else under the sun.

Master the art of concentration. It is the
Royal Road to Muscle and Might.

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik
