Some Quick Thoughts on Effective Strength Training and Muscle Building

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

I thought I'd do something a little different
today and share some short nuggets rather
than doing a long post on a single topic.

So here are some quick thoughts on
strength training.

Think of them as nuggets from the old
Iron Mine.

1. Nothing beats the basics, but some
of us do better if we modify them a little -
especially older trainees with dings and
dents.

2. When you try a new exercise, you're
a beginner for that exercise - so start
light and easy, and make gradual, slow
and steady progress on it.

3. A burning desire to succeed is the
key to great results from your training.

4. Rest days are more than merely okay -
they're an important part of your weekly
schedule.

5. No one has ever done a true long-term
study on the effect of life-long, drug-free
strength training - but we don't need a
study to tell us that it's a good thing.

6. After a certain age, it doesn't matter
what you're lifting as long as you're still
lifting.

7. From day one in your career, make
bone strength a priority.

8. If it's impossible to do both strength
training and cardio training (as some
believe), then how do wrestlers develop
superb levels of strength, power and
conditioning?

9. What works for me may or may not
work as well for you - but it will probably
work pretty darn well.

10. Think, plan, take action, evaluate
the results, and make any necessary
adjustments. Nothing ever happens
by accident.

I could keep going for a very long time,
but that's enough for today. I hope you
enjoyed these nuggets.

As always, thanks for reading and have a
great day. If you train today, make it a
good one.

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

P.S. I mentioned bone strength in tip
no. 7. It's very important - and it's some-
thing that most trainees completely ignore.

Here are two top resources for building
bone strength - one from John Wood,
