How to Avoid the Ugly Neck-Tie this Year

There's only one way to avoid the ugly neck-tie for Father's Day - and this is how to do it - with detailed, fail-safe instructions.

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Tomorrow is the Big Day for many of us.

Father's Day.

The day we always get a painfully ugly
neck-tie for our special present.

Ties with racing stripes.

Ties covered in question marks.

Pink ties with green polka-dots.

Ties that look like birds.

Ties that look like dogs.

Ties that look like fish.

Ties with golf clubs all over them.

Ties with super-heroes on them.

Heck, I knew one guy who got a tie with a
very artistic geometric design - but when
you looked close, the lines were made up
of very tiny silhouettes of naked women.

You had to be very close to see them . . .
but still, it was a very bad tie to wear to
work . . . . or anywhere else.

Anyhow, here's the way to avoid the tie
thing this year.

Put in a special request:

"Honey, I want a special shirt from the
Retro-Strength Shop.

You can order it for me right here:

https://www.retrostrength.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/mockup-51a940e0.jpg

https://www.retrostrength.com/product/dinosaur-training-cover-3-4-sleeve-raglan-shirt/

And if you feel like it, order me another
shirt or two - you pick them - there are
plenty to choose from:

https://www.retrostrength.com/shop/

But before buying anything, sign me up
for the Retro-Strength email list (or you
sign up for it) - and we'll get a special
coupon code by email that gives us 10
percent off any purchase from Retro-
Strength - on any orders thru June 17,
2018 (Father's Day).

Of course, if you'd like something for
yourself, feel free to get it. There are
some shirts for women - and some
shirts featuring some of the greatest
strong-women of all time - and some
Rosie the Riveter coffee mugs - and
some other things you might like.

I know the shirts won't get here in time,
but that's okay - you can buy me a copy
of Brooks' new training course - and the
May-June issue of The Dinosaur Files.

They arrive via email as PDF downloads,
so I'll have them on the Big Day.

Those would all be great presents -
I'd really like them.

Oh - if you got me a tie already - that's
really sweet of you, but I already have
quite a few of them - maybe we could
save it and give it to your brother next
month - it's his birthday, and I know he
likes colorful neck-ties."

How's that? Think it will work?

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

These Turned Out Great!

If John Grimek were alive today, I'd like to think he'd be wearing one of our great new Dinosaur Training t-shirts.

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

We have a ton of new stuff at the Retro-
Strength Shop - as in, over 40 new items
went up over the past week.

One of them is this new Dinosaur Training
shirt - which I really like - in fact, I think
it turned out great:

https://www.retrostrength.com/product/dinosaur-training-cover-3-4-sleeve-raglan-shirt/

Head on over and take a look - and be
sure to sign up for the Retro-Strength
emails - because when you do so, you
get a coupon code that let's you save
10 percent on any Retro-Strength

2018.

facilities both in North America and

very affordable for our overseas Dinos -
much better than if we printed shirts
here and shipped them to you from
Louisville.

sure every member of the Dino Nation
has at least one killer Dino shirt, hoodie,
or sweatshirt - and to get them into as
many different countries as we can -
and so we're making a big push to get
you great shirts at affordable prices.

And yes, Father's Day is right around
the corner - so get those orders in at
the Retro-Strength Shop!

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

I Goofed - A Quick Correction - Please Read!

The new Dinosaur Training shirts come in all sizes - including Double King Kong Size - which might even have fit Reg Park.

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Yesterday I sent an email letting you
know that we are going to be offering
new Dinosaur Training tee shirts, hoodies,
muscle shirts, etc. at John Wood's Retro
Strength Shop.

It should work pretty well.

We have a third-party printer that does
all the printing and fills all the orders.

It's been working great with John's other
shirts at the Retro Strength Shop, and I'm
very excited to be joining him and getting
some great new shirts for you.

Anyhow, in yesterday's email I said that
all orders will be shipped within 24 hours.

Turns out that was a mistake - so let me
correct it right now.

All orders are PRINTED within 24 hours
of the time they are placed.

The orders are SHIPPED within six days
of the day the order is placed.

I'm told, though, that most orders usually
ship within a couple of days.

Anyhow, that's the update and the
correction. Sorry for mistake on my part.

Anyhow . . . . I still think the new tee
shirts are pretty darn exciting.

We've been getting tons of orders so far
so we'll have plenty of Dinos wearing
their new Dinosaur Training shirts very
soon.

If you want to join them, here's the place
to do it:

https://www.retrostrength.com/shop/

Thanks!

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

Last Call -- Sweatshirts and Hoodies for Dinos!

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

I just wanted to give you a quick heads up.

We need to open up some storage space
here at Dino Headquarters, so we are
going to sell all of our remaining hoodies
and sweatshirts and not re-stock for
awhile.

Here's what we currently have in stock:

Gray Hair and Black Iron sweatshirts

L and 3XL

Dinosaur Training hoodies

S, M, L and 3XL

If you want one, shoot me an email.

We only have one or two of some sizes,
so it's first come, first served with very
limited quantities. So if you want one,
take immediate action.

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

Wet, Cold, Gray and Gloomy -- But It's a Training Day!

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Two quick notes, and then we'll talk
training.

1. The New Training Course.

We have a new training course that covers
effective strategies and workouts for older
Dinos. It's a PDF, with digital delivery --
meaning that you order the course, and
you get a link with a PDF to download.

It's fast, and there's no shipping cost --
and if you prefer to read it in hard copy
you can go ahead and print it out.

You can grab the little monster right
here:

http://www.brookskubik.com/minicourse_01.html

It's been a huge hit so far. Let me know
how you like it!

2. Sweatshirts and Hoodies.

We have a VERY LIMITED number of Dinosaur
Training Hoodies and Grey Hair and Black Iron
sweatshirts in stock. If you're interested in
ordering one, email me for the price, and
the sizes remaining. We're not going to
re-stock these for awhile, so if you want
one, email me now and see if we have
your size.

3. Wet, Cold, Gray and Gloomy -- But It's
a Training Day!

I type my daily emails in my second floor
study, looking out into a nearby park. On
a sunny day, it's beautiful, with golden
rays of light dancing on the trees, the
grass and the leaves.

But today's not sunny and bright.

It's mid-November, and it's wet, cold,
gray and gloomy.

But that doesn't matter.

I looked out the window, and I thought:
"Today's a training day! What a great day
it's going to be!"

And that's part of the magic of strength
training.

After you do it for awhile, strength training
becomes a regular part of your life. More
than that, it becomes a part of your life
that gives meaning to everything else.

For example, think about this: If someone
asked you to describe yourself in just ONE
word, what would your answer be?

For many of us, it would be:

Weightlifter.

Or powerlifter.

Or strongman.

Or bodybuilder.

Or Harry Paschall's old favorite -- "Iron Slinger"
(which is two words, but it's a great phrase,
so let's use it anyway).

Heck, some of us might even say "Dinosaur."

And even if your first response to the question
is "parent" or "father" or "husband" or a
word that defines your job or your profession,
if we let you list a couple of more terms I'm
pretty sure that one of them would speak to
your passion for strength training.

The point is, strength training defines who we
are and what we do -- and how we approach
life.

And yes, it's wet, cold, gray and gloomy today.
But it's a training day, and that means it's
going to be a great day!

As always, thanks for reading and have a
great day. If you train today, make it a
good one!

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

P.S. Here's something that will give you plenty
of motivation and inspiration for hard training --
along with dozens of great workouts and
training ideas:

Dinosaur Training DVDs -- my Legacy of Iron
books -- and links to all 15 of my e-books on

have fun!" -- Brooks Kubik

***********************************************************************************

Four Left -- and Going Fast!

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

It's my birthday, so I was going to
take the rest of the day off, but I
need to give you two quick updates:

1. Hoodies, Sweatshirts, T-shirts and
Muscle Shirts.

We're clearing out all of our current
inventory of sweatshirts, t-shirts,
muscle shirts, and hoodies, and
we're almost completely out of
stock.

We're not going to re-stock for
awhile, so if you want something,
you need to act now.

For example, we have just 4 Gray Hair
and Black Iron sweatshirts -- one XL
and three 3XL. That's it. No other
sizes.

We have very limited numbers of other
items -- and we're out of many sizes
and colors in them.

If you'd like something, send me an
email and ask if we have it in stock
before placing your order.

2. A Chance to Win 5 Free Books!

Carl Lanore, is running a special
contest on SuperHuman Radio this
week and next.

Here's how to enter the contest:

When you listen to SuperHuman Radio,
pay careful attention at the commercial
breaks.

During one of the commercial breaks
in each hour of the show, Carl will
announce the secret word.

He'll do this on each show.

When you hear it, you send Carl an email
identifying the secret word -- and that
enters you in the contest.

Note: Do NOT send me an email with the
secret word. Send it to Carl. He'll give you
the email address on air.

Carl will draw the winner's name at the
end of next week.

There will be one winner and one winner
only -- and the prize will be pretty darn
good.

How good?

Get this . . .

The prize is an autographed set of all
five of my Legacy of Iron books, starting
with this little monster:

http://www.brookskubik.com/legacy_of_iron.html

With shipping and handling, that has a
retail value of something like 150 clams.
Plus, they're darn good books. Readers
love them.

I'll be on Physical Culture Radio at
12:00 noon EST tomorrow, so you
can listen to the show and learn
the secret word then:

http://superhumanradio.com/

Thanks for reading, and remember -- if
you want a shirt, hoodie or sweatshirt,
send an email asap and see if we have
your size in stock.

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

P.S. Thanks for all the birthday wishes!

The Best Training Program for Beginners

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

One quick note, and then we'll talk training.

1. Last Chance for Dino Training Shirts

We need some storage space here at Dino
Headquarters, so we're selling all of our
remaining t-shirts, hoodies and sweat
shirts. We have a limited supply and
they are going fast. We're already out
of stock in several sizes and colors.

Once the current stock is gone, we're
going to discontinue shirts for awhile.
As I said, we need the storage space
for other things.

If you want a shirt, hoodie or sweat shirt,
EMAIL me before placing your order and
ask if we have it in stock.

If you want multiple items, EMAIL me first
and ask for a shipping quote.

And now, let's talk training.

2. The Best Training Program for Beginners

I got an email the other day from a reader
who wanted to know where to find a good
training program for a beginner.

He wasn't actually a beginner, because he's
done some training in the past -- but he's
been doing it stop and start style (or on
again, off again style) for a few years.

So he needs to get on a beginner's
program -- and stay on it. He needs
to get into the training habit. No more
stopping and starting.

Similar logic applies to someone who used
to train but is coming back after a long
layoff. In that case, you're not a true
beginner, but you'll do best with a
beginner program.

The key elements of a good training program
for beginners are:

1. The program should be light and easy.

a. Light and easy makes it easy to stick
to the program.

b. Light and easy helps the beginner avoid
undue muscular soreness.

c. True story: John Grimek thought his thighs
were getting too big so he didn't do squats for
8 years. When he started doing them again,
he did a workout that involved 200 or more
reps (with heavy weights) -- and he almost
crippled himself. He should have broken
back into it much lighter and easier.

2. Train three times per week on alternate
days, such as M/W/F.

3. Train for 30 to 45 mins per workout.

4. Use basic barbell and dumbbell exercises.

5. Use low volume. ONE set of 8 to 10
exercises is plenty.

6. Use a simple progression system.

a. Progression builds strength and muscle.

b. Progression also teaches you the Success
Habit -- i.e., it teaches you that strength
training works.

7. You can (and should) double your strength
on a basic beginner's program. So there's no
reason to do anything longer or more difficult
or more demanding. Save the longer, more
difficult and more demanding programs for
when you are more advanced.

As for specific workouts, try any of the 10
beginner programs in Chalk and Sweat:

http://www.brookskubik.com/chalk_and_sweat.html

Combine the workout with the progression
system for beginners in chapter 3 of Dinosaur
Training Secrets, Vol. 3:

Hardcopy

http://www.brookskubik.com/dinosaur_secrets_03.html

Kindle E-book

http://www.brookskubik.com/dinosaur_secrets3_kindle.html

And that's how to get it done.

As always, thanks for reading and have a
great day. If you train today, make it a good
one.

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

P.S. Remember to EMAIL first -- and do it NOW --
if you're interested in a t-shirt, sweat shirt or
hoodie.

The Problem with Super Programs

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

In yesterday's radio interview on SuperHuman
Radio I answered training questions from
readers and listeners. It was a pretty good
show. If you missed it, head over to the
SuperHuman radio (or my Facebook page -- or
Carl Lanore's Facebook page) and listen to
the download.

One of the questions was from a reader who
did a Bulgarian style program where he did
a max in the squat, deadlift and overhead
press TWICE every day for five or six days
a week.

He said he did well for about five weeks,
and then he crashed and burned.

And that's a story that I've seen and heard
so many times over the past 30 or 40 years
that if I had a penny for every time I heard
it I could pile them up one on top of the
other until they reached the moon -- or
possibly even Mars.

EVERYBODY has done it. EVERYBODY has tried
some variation of the latest and greatest
super program -- and it worked great for a
short period of time and then they burned
out.

It's even happened to guys who know better.

I know a man who wrote great training articles,
with real world, no-nonsense training advice.
Lots of basic exercises, squats, deadlifts,
presses, bench presses, rowing, etc. 3x per
week programs using divided workout schedules.
For the most part, multiple sets of low reps.
Good stuff. Much like Dino training. (No, it
wasn't me -- I've made plenty of mistakes over
the years, but this story is about someone
else.)

Anyhow, when he was younger, he corresponded
(by letter -- this was before the days of
email) -- with ANOTHER top writer and expert --
and this man suggested that he train five or
six days per week on a program that included
some form of heavy pressing every day.

My friend tried that program as a young lifter.
He did standing presses, presses from eye-level
in the rack, lockout presses in the rack, incline
presses, bench presses, behind the neck presses,
close grip bench presses, dumbbell presses,
dumbbell bench presses -- you name it, if it
was a heavy duty pressing movement, he did it.

And remember -- he trained 5 or 6 days per
week -- he hit a pressing movement every day --
and he worked really hard and really heavy.

It worked great for about five weeks.

And then he crashed and burned.

Big time crash and burn. he was so stale and
burnt out that it took months to work back up
to his top lifts.

He went back to a more sensible program -- with
rest days -- and he started to feel better, and
then he started to grow again, and he started to
get bigger and stronger -- and finally, after a
number of months, he was back to where he had
been BEFORE he started the super program.

A couple of years later, he hit a plateau in his
training and remembered the super program -- so
he tried it again.

Same result. Five weeks of good progress -- and
then the crash and burn -- and then massive
staleness -- and he lost everything he had
worked so hard to gain.

Believe it or not, this happened to him
several more times.

You see, that super program SOUNDED so perfect --
so compelling -- so "It's got to work!" -- that he
kept on trying it over and over again -- even
AFTER he had tried it and failed, tried it and
failed, tried it and failed.

And that's what happens with the super programs.

They SOUND great.

But they don't work. They don't deliver. They
just burn you out.

In all of my books and courses I emphasize HARD
WORK and PROGRESSIVE POUNDAGES. I advocate the
use of the BIG exercises. There's nothing EASY
about my training methods.

But I also do something else. I give you training
programs that allow plenty of time for recovery
and recuperation. They're not super programs --
they're real world, real life training programs
for real people.

And unlike the super programs, Dino programs really
work.

As always, thanks for reading and have a great day.
If you train today, make it a good one!

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

The Not Quite Fan Mail Stuff

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Did I mention that we got NEGATIVE feedback on the Chalk and Sweat cover (and on the title)?

Yep. We’ve been flooded.

Here’s a small sample:

I can’t believe you’d write a book about chalk and sweat. I train at (NAME OF FAMOUS FITNESS CHAIN WITHELD TO PROTECT THE GUILTY) and they don’t allow either! -- Chrome N. Fernie

What are you trying to do – make me and my elves work overtime? We’re going to have to spend weeks to get your new book to everyone who wants a copy. I call FOUL! You’re definitely on the Lump of Coal List! -- Kris Kringle

I really, really don’t like this. – Shake Weight User (Name Witheld)

I suggest you review the relevant literature. I’m not aware of any research study suggesting that sweat is necessary for serious strength training. And I’m certainly not aware of any research studies involving chalk. – Graduate Student working on advanced degree in Exercise Science at a major university (Name and University Witheld)

I’ve talked with Santa, and I’m absolutely appalled at your lack of consideration for his elves. Please be advised that I am taking this to the Executive Committee to consider further action. – Percival Q. Linkletter, III. President and Chairman of the Board for P.E.T.E. (People for the Ethical Treatment of Elves)

Great. Wonderful. Thanks a whole heck of a lot. My next door neighbor has been reading your books for years, and every other day I’m suggested to the full-scale Dinosaur Training Workout in the garage – and all I can hear are the sounds of heavy iron being lifted, records being shattered and strength and muscle be built as fast as possible. When your new book comes out, it’s going to be ten times worse. I hope you’re happy. – Disgruntled Neighbor

You just destroyed the whole idea of my next book: “Effortless Exercise!” I wish you would be more considerate! – Ghostwriter for Celebrity Fitness Books (Name Withheld by his Publisher)

I really don’t approve of the portrayal of a Herculean strongman manhandling a rare set of antique railroad wheels. Now everyone will want to do the same thing! -- H.M. Trusty, Senior Editor, “The Antique Railroad Wheel Review.”

Lifting those wheels was nothing. My uncle used to know a guy who trained with a guy who knew a guy who used to do that with TWO of those big wheels – for reps! – I. Useta Noe

This looks bad! You may need to come in for questioning. – The Exercise Police

There’s more, but that should give you a taste of what we’ve been getting. And it will probably get a lot worse once they learn more about the book – what it covers, who it’s for, what it features, etc.

I gotta tell you, though. I never thought I’d be hearing from a guy who trains with those Shake Weight thingies. I wonder if he’ll end up ordering Chalk and Sweat? He probably won’t, but he sure ought to. It would be the best thing in the world for him.

Yours in strength,

P.S. Today is officially Hoodie day – we’re filling orders for Dinosaur Training hoodies right and left. I may need to ask everyone who orders one to send in a photo where you’re wearing your hoodie while doing some serious Dino-insanity:

Masses and Masses of Mail from Dinos!

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

The two-ton pterodactyl that delivers the mail to Dino Headquarters is about ready to have a hernia – we’re buried in feedback about the cover of Chalk and Sweat. Right now, it’s about 50/50 between positive and negative feedback.

That’s right – negative feedback. I’ll share some examples a little later in the day.

But for now, here’s where to find the cover – and then here are some of the POSITIVE responses from Dinos around the world.

The Chalk and Sweat Cover is here:

And here’s some feedback from the Dinos:

The cover is fantastic. Can’t wait to order my copy! – Ben Wiley

Looks good! When’s it out? – Martin Przybylak

Awesome cover photo! John Davis was the man! Thanks! -- Keith Supernavage

Excellent cover, Brooks. One of my all-time favorite photos of one of my all-time favorite lifters. Works for me. – Peter Yates

Excellent picture! I'm sure he made that lift just by looking at the determination in his face. I saw the picture earlier this morning while I was glancing through the December issue of Dino Files before I left for work. Looks like another great issue. Thanks! – Bill Marchese

Outstanding cover photo, Brooks! – Muata Kamdibe

I didn't think you could top the cover to Legacy of Iron III with the great Stanko and the 1000 pound total, but now you pull out John Davis muscling out the train-car axle! As we used to say back in the day -- OUTASITE! – Paul Murray

There is NO WAY I will miss a book with a title like CHALK AND SWEAT – or a book with John Davis lifting the Apollon Wheels on the cover! Have you seen the video clip of John's lift of the Wheels? VERY impressive, especially after seeing his SCARY first attempt! Keep up the great work! Brian DeLong

John Davis lifting the Apollon Wheels, one of my fave pics. Check out the vid of this, it's a classic; he almost passes out after the lift is completed. Great choice Brooks :) – Chris Young

Amazing photo, look at those legs ... sheesh! Can't wait till it comes out! Thanks for the tease, Brooks. – Zach Lister

I can't wait. I know it's going to be a gem just like it's predecessors! – Jayson Duckett

Well, I can’t wait either – and I’m the guy who wrote it!

That’s all for now, but be looking for an email with the negative feedback. The bunnies are up in arms.

As always, thanks for reading, and have a great day. If you train today, make it a good one!

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

Revealed: The Title of My New Book!

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

Here the answers to yesterday’s 10 clues to help you guess the title of my new, soon to be released, strength training book:

1. The title is three words.

And remember that earlier I had said they were all one syllable words – and that they all shared one letter of the alphabet – and that other than that one letter, they had no letters in common.

2. The first word begins with the same letter as the first name of Tommy Kono’s brand new book on Olympic weightlifting.

The letter “C” – the title of Tommy’s new book (which is excellent!) is “Championship Weightlifting.”

3. The second word begins with the first letter of the stage name used by the legendary French strongman, Louis Uni.

The letter “A.” Louis Uni performed under the stage name of Apollon.

4. The third word ends with the first letter of the first name of the author of the old book, “Scientific Weightlifting” – which Bill Hinbern just released in a modern, reprint edition.

The letter “T” – Thomas Inch wrote “Scientific Weightlifting.”

5. The first word in the title is something that helps lifters.

6. The third word is something that’s often fake in the photos they use in the muscle comics.

Hmmm. Well, if they spray water on the guy to make it look like he’s sweating, the answer would be “sweat.”

7. Go to the Dinosaur Training Blog and look for a post I put up 7 – 10 days ago titled “Heavy Singles – What Works Best?” It gives you three HUGE clues. Look for what I repeat.

This sentence is repeated 3 times: “When I finished the workout I was covered with chalk, dripping with sweat, and breathing like a locomotive.”

8. When Doug Hepburn first traveled to New York City in the early 1950’s, an Iron Game author met him at the train station, and later wrote the famous words:

“So broad was he, so massive, so striking in appearance, that everyone around stopped, stood, and stared. His very carriage, his step, deliberate, yet light and springy, spelled power.”

The first letters of the author’s first, middle, and last name are the same as the first letters of the three words in the title.

The author was Charles A. Smith – so the letters are “C” – “A” – and “S.”

9. The three words in the title are the mark of a successful workout.

Go back and reread no. 7.

10. The three words in the tile will get you kicked out of 99% of the “gyms” in the world – and ALL of the chrome and fern pleasure palaces.

All the places that don’t like heavy iron, hard work, chalk – and – sweat.

Can you guess the title now?

I bet you can. Many of you already guessed it.

CHALK AND SWEAT

I don’t know about you, but I think it’s a darn good title for a book that focuses on the kind of hard, heavy, no-nonsense training we teach here at Dino Headquarters.

Yours in strength,

Brooks Kubik

P.S. I’ll reveal the winner of the “Guess the Title of My New Book Contest” next week. He did it the hard way – using the first clues I gave you way back in November.

Something New from Dinosaur Training!

Hail to the Dinosaurs!

They say that when you get married, you’re supposed to wear “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.”

Well, I’m not getting married – but at age 53 I do qualify as “something OLD.”

And right now, I’m wearing something NEW.

And it’s something I BORROWED from a big box of them that we rec’d not very long ago.

And it’s BLUE – with white letters. Although it also comes in black with white letters, and gray with black letters.

And I will add this – the little monster is just the thing for cold-weather workouts!

So slide on over to Dinosaur Headquarters and take a look:
