Outdoor training at Dinosaur Headquarters. After more than 50 years of hitting the iron, I still have tons of fun in each and every workout. |
Hail to the Dinosaurs!
Two quick notes and then we'll talk about
the most important five minutes of your
entire workout - and how to use them to
maximum advantage.
But first . . .
1. The February Dinosaur Files
Go here to grab the February issue of The
Dinosaur Files strength training newsletter
in a downloadable and printable PDF format:
http://www.brookskubik.com/dinosaur-files-february2018pdf.html
Also - you can grab the Oct, Nov, Dec and
Jan issues right here:
http://brookskubik.com/dinosaur_files.html
I'm working on the March issue right now,
and we'll get it as soon as we can - and yes,
it's going to be another good one!
2. The John Wood Report
Have you seen The John Wood Report?
It's pretty good - with some really terrific
training tips - in a convenient, 12-page
PDF format - that's downloadable and
printable.
Go here to grab it:
https://www.oldtimestrongman.com/johnwoodreport-01.html
This has been a big hit, and I'm sure
John is going to be doing more of these
bite-size reports. It will be fun to read
them during the coming year.
Shoot me an email after you read it - and
let me know how you like it!
3. The Most Important Five Minutes
The most important five minutes of your
workout aren't really part of your workout.
They're the five minutes right before your
workout begins.
And what's important about those five
minutes is that they give you a chance to
clear your mind - to forget about your day
to day thoughts, issues and concerns - to
stop fussing and fretting and worrying -
and to forget about your job, your spouse,
your family, paying the bills, picking up
the groceries, feeding the cat, walking
the dog or whatever.
And yes, this is also the time when you
turn off your cell phone - and when you
un-plug from the digital world.
This is the time when you move from
the every day world we live in to the
inner universe of serious strength
training.
And it takes a little bit of time and effort
to get there.
I move into the inner universe by focusing
on my workout.
I have it mapped out in advance - every
exercise, every set and every rep.
It's all there - written down in my training
journal.
So I know exactly what I want to do.
Before the workout begins, I close my
eyes and visualize the entire workout
from start to finish.
I see myself doing my warm-ups.
Doing my first warm-up sets with the empty
barbell.
Adding weight from set to set.
Working up to my top weights for the day
in every exercise that I am scheduled to do.
I watch myself chalking my hands - tightening
my belt - walking to the bar - grabbing the bar -
and then performing each and every rep in
letter-perfect form.
After five minutes, I'm ready to train - and
ready to make the workout a really good one.
And it always is.
Every single time.
Most people don't know about this pre-workout
ritual - or understand it - or do it.
That's their loss - because this little tip is solid
gold.
Give it a try - and see for yourself.
As always, thanks for reading and have a great
day. If you train today, make it a good one!
Yours in strength,
Brooks Kubik
