I thought I was hidden away from the world when I train outdoors here at Dino Headquarters - but yesterday, someone was watching - and now we have a new lifter. |
Hail to the Dinosaurs!
Two quick notes and then we'll talk iron -
as in, the story of the new lifter - a kid who
may very well be a champion some day.
1. Retro Strength Madness!
They talk about March Madness, and that's
all well and good - but John Wood's Retro
Strength Store has a special madness all
it's own.
It's filled with shirts, mugs, posters and
other goodies featuring famous old-time
strongmen, weightlifters, boxers, and
wrestlers.
And John is adding more every day - such
as the Sig Klein and Strangler Lewis shirts
that just popped up.

2. The February Dino Files
Go here to grab the February issue of The
Dinosaur Files:
http://www.brookskubik.com/dinosaur-files-february2018pdf.html
It's a great issue, with a ton of training
tips and some terrific workouts - along
with a number of new exercises to try.
Good stuff - I know you'll like it!
3. The New Lifter
In yesterday's email I talked about leading
by example.
In other words, training and eating the
right way - and letting the results speak
for themselves.
And perhaps even helping someone else
learn about old-school, Dino-style training.
That's funny, because I ended up doing
exactly that a little later in the day.
It was a sunny, pleasant day - a bit windy,
but that's to be expected in early March.
I was looking forward to a great workout
in the outside training area here at Dino
Headquarters.
Meaning a nice flat place in the drive-way
in back of the duplex where we live.
I lay rubber stall mats down to make a
simple lifting area, bring out the barbell
and the plates, and get to it.
It works pretty well.
And training outdoors is a lot of fun - as
well as being extra healthy and extra
good for you.
There's a daycare across the street. The
teachers bring the kids out to play in a
little fenced in playground area at the
end of the day.
They were out there when I was training.
Anyhow, I got warmed up and then started
doing some power snatches.
Boom - toss the bar overhead.
Boom - do it again.
Boom - again.
And so on.
After one of my sets, I happened to glance
over in the direction of the playground.
And that's when I saw him.
A little boy - perhaps three or four - holding
onto the fence and watching intently as I
tossed the barbell overhead.
You could tell he thought it looked like fun -
and you could see that he wanted to give
it a try.
I imagine that in about eight or nine years,
that little kid is going to find a barbell of his
own - and he's going to start training - and
he's going to have tons of fun, and do pretty
darn well.
Heck, he may even be a champion someday.
He probably won't remember seeing the old
guy doing power snatches in his drive-way,
but that doesn't matter.
The seed has been planted.
We have a new lifter.
As always, thanks for reading and have a
great day. If you train today, make it a
good one.
Yours in strength,
Brooks Kubik
P.S. Wait until the new lifter sees the new
power rack in action! He'll love it!
